Position: Fit & Well Senior Group Exercise Instructor
Salary: $40.00 - $50.00 hourly (Commensurate with experience and certs)
About the Job
The Y is hiring dynamic instructors for various specialties of Senior Wellness Group Exercise classes. These include Yoga, Zumba, Chair Exercises, Boot Camp/HIIT, Strength Training, Tai Chi, Step Aerobics, and more for seniors age 65 and up.
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver energetic, engaging, and safe cycling classes for senior fitness levels
- Foster a positive atmosphere with a genuine commitment to helping members feel welcome, supported, and motivated
- Offer modifications and coaching to support individual needs
- Build strong relationships before, during, and after class
- Promote other Y wellness programs and community events
Qualifications and Skills:
- Nationally recognized group exercise certification and/or other specialty certifications like Yoga Alliance, CrossFit, Zumba, Pilates/Pilates Reformer, Martial Arts,Spin/Indoor Cycle,Les Mills, Barre.
- Able to conduct safe, effective and motivating Senior group exercise class.
- Must display an outgoing personality, enabling him/her to relate well to participants.
- Demonstrated interest in working with senior population
- CPR, AED certification.
- Nationally recognized group exercise certification and/or other specialty certifications like Yoga Alliance, CrossFit, Zumba, Pilates/Pilates Reformer, Martial Arts,Spin/Indoor Cycle,Les Mills, Barre.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to teach multiple classes per week
- Stand, move, lift up to 25 pounds, and demonstrate exercises safely
- Stamina to lead high-energy sessions and maintain class engagement

Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. The YMCA is one of the largest social service agencies serving Washington D.C., suburban Maryland and northern Virginia. Every year, we provide opportunities in wellness, aquatics, youth sports, summer camp, child care, and more for over 250,000 people through our 17 branches and program centers.
Our utmost goal is to make the Y and all we offer accessible and available to the entire community. With the help of our generous donors, community partners and members, we were able to provide $2,662,507 in scholarships and subsidies to more than 12,400 children, adults and families in 2014.
Over 3,140 volunteers gave 161,572 hours of their time and talent in 2014 to help the YMCA fulfill its mission. From dedicated board members to talented program volunteers, these caring friends and neighbors help the YMCA serve more individuals and impact more communities every year.
