Professional Patrol - New Patroller

Overview

Ski Patrollers are the front line of guest and employee safety at The Summit at Snoqualmie, delivering emergency medical response, rescue, and hazard mitigation across assigned terrain. Reporting to the Patrol Supervisor and Patrol Manager, this seasonal role covers the full arc of a patrol shift, from pre-operation hazard checks to post operational closeout, in every condition the mountain brings.

Come work and play at Seattle’s home mountain, the Summit at Snoqualmie. Located an hour from Seattle, at the junction where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses Interstate 90. With summer activities ramping up with spectacular Mountain Biking trails and Scenic Lift Rides, there is a lot to do all year long.

Responsibilities

Job duties may include, but are not limited to:

Long Term Thinking

• Complete all required training and maintain current certifications and licenses.
• Build lasting proficiency in medical response, toboggan handling, lift evacuation, UTV operation, and avalanche awareness so skills carry season to season.

Excellence in Execution

• Respond promptly and professionally to on-mountain emergency calls, administering emergency medical care and transporting patients by toboggan or UTV as needed.
• Assist non-injured guests who need transportation due to equipment failure or fatigue.
• Conduct regular terrain checks across assigned zones to identify and mitigate hazards, and assess and report on weather, snow conditions, and skier traffic.
• Participate in search and rescue operations, locating missing guests.
• Perform lift evacuations as part of a highly trained and coordinated team.
• Execute trail maintenance duties, including setting up and removing signs, fencing, and closures; marking hazards; shoveling, packing, and manually grooming snow, clearing brush and obstacles.
• Open and close trails per operational protocol.
• Assist with patrol dispatch operations.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of patrol facilities and duty stations.
• Perform other duties assigned by patrol leadership.

• Monitor and address unsafe guest behavior, enforcing mountain safety policies clearly while keeping interactions positive and educational.
• Stay composed, professional, and focused on solutions during fast-moving emergencies and high-pressure situations.

Serve First

• Support racing events, mountain operations, special functions, and Tubing Park operations to keep the guest experience safe and positive.
• Respond to the medical emergencies of summit team members both on the hill and in our facilities during operational hours. 

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

Required

• Advanced to expert skier or snowboarder, able to operate confidently in variable mountain terrain and conditions.
• Physically capable of hiking in mountainous terrain and inclement weather while carrying 20-30 pounds of gear daily (occasionally 60+ pounds) and performing demanding physical tasks in a winter alpine environment.
• Strong critical thinking, situational awareness, and sound judgment under pressure.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC- National Ski Patrol) or EMT-Basic (National or Washington State) certification.
• Current BLS Provider CPR certification.
• Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred

• Prior wilderness, EMS, or emergency response experience.
• Avalanche awareness or companion rescue training.
• Experience working outdoors in a physically demanding, fast-changing environment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Must be able to ski or snowboard at a high level of proficiency
• Medical skills: National or Washington EMT Basic, or Outdoor Emergency Care NSP Certification, Annual BLS Provider CPR Certification.

Wage and Benefit Info:

The wage range for this positions is:  from $21.00 to $22.58/hr

This is a non-benefited role.

All individuals may contribute to the 401(k). An employee must work 1,000 hours in a calendar year to qualify for the discretionary match (there is a 2 year vesting cliff).

All individuals accrue sick time at 1 hour per 40 hours worked to a maximum of 64 hours per year.
