The Process Engineer plans, develops, and improves manufacturing processes for new and existing products. This position reviews customer and engineering requirements, establishes practical manufacturing methods and routings, identifies equipment and tooling needs, and develops accurate labor and production standards.

The Process Engineer evaluates process performance, completes time and work studies, prepares technical recommendations, and works with Sales, Operations, Quality, Tooling, Maintenance, and other departments to support safe, repeatable, and cost-effective production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Review customer drawings, engineering prints, models, specifications, and related documents to determine manufacturing requirements and process feasibility.

• Develop, evaluate, document, and improve manufacturing methods for new and existing products.

• Establish and maintain process routings, sequences of operation, standard work, and supporting manufacturing documentation.

• Identify the machines, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, materials, and other resources required to manufacture each part.

• Estimate setup, cycle, and labor time for each operation using time studies, work measurement, production data, and sound engineering judgment.

• Analyze process performance, capacity, workflow, and equipment capability to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

• Observe manufacturing operations and work with employees and leaders to confirm that documented methods are practical, repeatable, and followed.

• Work with Operations, Quality, Tooling, Maintenance, Sales, and other departments to implement processes, resolve production issues, and support product launches and engineering changes.

• Apply statistical and mathematical analysis to validate time-study data, labor standards, sampling methods, and process recommendations.

• Lead or support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring process, quality, scrap, rework, throughput, or equipment concerns.

• Prepare technical analysis and recommendations that support tooling, equipment, capacity, staffing, cost, and capital decisions.

• Communicate process requirements, changes, findings, and project status clearly to employees, leaders, and other departments.

• Participate in meetings, training, continuous-improvement activities, and other cross-functional projects.

• Follow all Morton Industries policies, procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and safety practices.

• Support departmental and production needs by performing other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee works in both office and manufacturing environments. While performing this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, dirty or oily conditions, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and elevated noise levels. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly uses hands and fingers to handle, operate, or feel parts, documents, and equipment and frequently sits. The employee may occasionally stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The position requires the ability to communicate and hear and requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

• Three or more years of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or closely related experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

• Experience developing routings, conducting time studies, analyzing cycle times, and establishing manufacturing standards preferred.

• Experience reading engineering drawings and specifications and selecting manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, fixtures, and gauges.

• Experience with manufacturing ERP software required; experience with Syteline is preferred.

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, charts, pivot tables, data organization, and analysis.

• Experience with CAD or other engineering software and experience supporting a multi-plant manufacturing organization are beneficial.

QualificationsPREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; in a relevant engineering discipline, preferred but not required.

 A minimum of 5 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
