The Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences is one of three academic departments in the College of Education (COE). It is comprised of four major programs: Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Communication Disorders and Sciences (CDS), School Psychology (SPSY), and Special Education (SPED). The Department offers degrees from undergraduate to master's and doctoral, as well as licensure and endorsement programs. The Special Education and Clinical Sciences Department is involved in collaborative efforts among all COE departments and institutes to support research across the College, outreach activities, and core requirements for the master's, education specialist, and doctoral programs.

Position Summary

The University of Oregon’s Special Education and Clinical Sciences (SPECS) Department in the College of Education seeks to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill periodic instructional vacancies for temporary teaching assignments. The department anticipates hiring instructors for undergraduate or lecturers for graduate-level courses in the following content areas: instruction and assessment; transition; educational and psychological foundations; methods of teaching (early intervention, elementary and secondary); child and adolescent studies; multicultural education; special education law, experimental analysis of behavior, principles, philosophy and ethics in behavior analysis, organizational behavior management, assessment, academic/educational, intellectual, and behavioral assessment and interventions, positive behavior supports, school-based consultation, developmental psychopathology, child and family interventions, principles and practices in school psychology, school-based practicum or other school psychology, special education, or applied behavior analysis research and education-related areas. Courses may be offered in Special Education, School Psychology, or Applied Behavior Analysis programs within the department.

Duties may include course preparation, teaching using face to face, online or hybrid modalities, preparation and evaluation of student assignments and exams, supervision of Graduate Employees who serve as teaching assistants, and scheduled office hours. Some courses meet during evenings or weekends. Positions are limited-duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. Appointments may range from one to three terms per year, including summer.

Minimum Requirements

Instructor/Undergraduate Instruction:
• Master’s degree in special education, school psychology, other areas of psychology, or related professions.
• Relevant subject matter expertise (special education, school psychology, psychology, teaching).
• Professional experience in one or more of the content areas listed above.

Note: Some courses require a current school psychology license and three years of school-based school psychology practice according to the National Association of School Psychologists accreditation guidelines.

Lecturer/Graduate Instruction:
• Ph.D. or other doctorate in special education, school psychology, other areas of psychology, applied behavior analysis, or related professions.
• Relevant subject matter expertise (special education, school psychology, psychology, applied behavior analysis, teaching).
• Professional experience in one or more of the content areas listed above.

Professional Competencies

• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills that will support undergraduate and/or graduate student training.
• Ability to contribute positively to our diverse community and to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability or potential for quality teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for instructors/lecturers (with licenses and experiences relevant for individual course assignments):
• PhD or other doctorate in special education, school psychology, other areas of psychology, applied behavior analysis, or related professions.
• Previous successful experience teaching the course content area(s), including university-level instruction.
• School psychology licensure (current or eligible),
• At least three years of school-based school psychology practice
• Current Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification
• Licensure as a Behavior Analyst in Oregon
