PRN MRI Technician

Description

 The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality MRI examinations for patients receiving care in an outpatient pain management setting. The MRI Technologist provides compassionate and professional patient care while ensuring accurate imaging, proper patient positioning, MRI safety, and compliance with physician orders, established protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with patients experiencing chronic pain, limited mobility, anxiety, or other conditions that may affect their ability to tolerate an MRI examination.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Perform MRI/X-ray examinations according to physician orders and established imaging protocols.

· Verify patient identity, exam orders, and relevant clinical information prior to each examination.

· Complete appropriate MRI/X-ray safety screening, including evaluation of implants, medical devices, metal, and other contraindications.

· Explain the MRI/X-ray procedure to patients and answer questions to promote understanding and comfort.

· Assist patients with safe positioning and transfers, taking into consideration pain, mobility limitations, and physical restrictions.

· Operate MRI/X-ray equipment and imaging software to obtain diagnostic-quality images.

· Select appropriate imaging sequences and parameters based on the ordered examination and established protocols.

· Monitor patients throughout the examination and respond appropriately to patient discomfort, anxiety, or changes in condition.

· Evaluate images for quality, positioning, and completeness and repeat sequences when necessary.

· Follow all MRI/X-ray safety policies and maintain a safe MRI/X-ray environment at all times.

· Administer contrast media when ordered and permitted by applicable regulations, facility policy, and scope of practice.

· Monitor patients for potential adverse reactions to contrast and follow appropriate emergency procedures when necessary.

· Maintain accurate patient records and documentation related to MRI/X-ray examinations.

· Maintain examination rooms, equipment, and supplies in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

· Perform routine quality-control procedures and report equipment issues or malfunctions promptly.

· Follow HIPAA, infection control, patient privacy, and other applicable healthcare regulations and policies.

· Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other clinical staff regarding patient needs and imaging concerns.

· Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.

· Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and meeting clinic scheduling requirements.

· Maintain required certifications and participate in continuing education as appropriate.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED  EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

The position requires an Associate Degree in Radiology, valid and current Arkansas licensure, current BLS certification, and two (2) years of prior MRI experience.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a PRN position. Days and hours of work varies, evenings and weekends. Occasional overtime may be required. The position operates in a professional office environment and the incumbent, in the course of performing this position, spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, driving, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds) and reaching. The incumbent may operate any or all of the following standard office equipment including but not limited to multi-line telephone system, postage mater, facsimile machines, calculator, photocopy machine, computer/printer, and coffee maker. The incumbent may operate medical equipment. The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
