Principal Engineering Manager, Copilot agent platform

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Engineering Manager, Copilot Agent Platform based in United States.

This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity focused on shaping the future of AI-powered software development.
You will lead a team building innovative agentic experiences on a secure, scalable cloud platform used by developers and organizations worldwide.
The role combines strategic technical leadership, large-scale distributed systems, generative AI applications, and engineering management.
You will translate product strategy into a clear technical roadmap while ensuring services are reliable, secure, performant, and designed for global scale.
You will work closely with Product Management, Design, Research, Security, and engineering leaders to navigate ambiguity and deliver complex initiatives.
A major focus will be building a high-trust, high-performing engineering culture while mentoring staff and principal-level engineers.
This remote U.S. role offers the opportunity to influence how AI agents transform the software development lifecycle and enable developers to delegate increasingly complex work to intelligent systems.

Accountabilities:

• Set and execute the technical roadmap for agentic experiences, aligning engineering priorities with product strategy and organizational objectives.
• Partner with organizational leaders to shape the AI product portfolio, identify opportunities for innovation, and lead initiatives designed for global scale.
• Lead and develop a team of senior engineers, establishing clear direction while fostering ownership, inclusion, collaboration, experimentation, and engineering excellence.
• Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop engineering talent, manage performance, and ensure the team maintains relevant technical expertise and industry knowledge.
• Translate product requirements and customer feedback into technical strategies, architectures, and delivery plans in partnership with product managers and technical leads.
• Lead the development and operation of large-scale services and agentic products with strong standards for security, reliability, scalability, and quality.
• Own incident response and reliability practices, ensuring production services meet defined SLOs and that postmortems lead to systemic improvements.
• Oversee capacity planning and operational readiness to maintain performance, reliability, and compliance as services scale.
• Champion experimentation and telemetry-driven development to enable rapid iteration and data-informed engineering decisions.
• Identify bottlenecks and opportunities across AI-powered development workflows and drive improvements that increase team and organizational impact.
• Promote engineering excellence through automation, tooling, standardization, deployment improvements, testing, and operational practices.
• Facilitate cross-team communication, manage dependencies, resolve conflicts, and ensure effective integration across products, applications, and services.
• Work closely with staff and principal engineers and partner teams to solve complex technical challenges and advance the overall agent platform.
• Incorporate emerging technologies and methodologies where they can improve product capabilities, engineering effectiveness, or operational outcomes.

Requirements:

• 11+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software.
• Equivalent experience may be considered in place of the standard educational and experience pathways.
• Relevant experience with production programming in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
• Alternatively, qualifying combinations of an Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD-level degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field with progressively relevant professional experience.
• 5+ years of people management experience.
• 3+ years of experience building or managing large-scale services or developing agentic products.
• Strong technical leadership experience with distributed systems, large-scale services, and production software architectures.
• Experience designing, building, or integrating AI/ML-powered capabilities into production systems.
• Preferred experience operating large-scale services in complex or high-growth environments.
• Strong expertise in systems programming, ideally with Rust and Go.
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale engineering organizations in high-growth, ambiguous, or rapidly evolving environments.
• Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate broad product objectives into clear technical direction and execution plans.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, stakeholder management, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to mentor and influence very senior engineers while creating empowered, high-trust teams.
• Strong focus on operational rigor, experimentation, reliability, continuous improvement, and customer impact.

Benefits:

• Annual base salary range of $160,200–$425,000, with actual compensation determined by factors including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
