POSITION SUMMARY: The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for assessing the needs of at-risk members of their site, such as educating those within the community utilizing evidenced based programs,  child neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, unmet emotional needs, stresses of child care, drug/alcohol abuse, attitude towards violence and peer pressure. The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for identifying and counseling participants that are identified as as-risk, based on the aforementioned definitions. This position also requires daily travel throughout Staten Island and reliable transportation.

Please note this is a Part-Time position, Monday-Friday 2:30pm-5:30pm/ 6pm (approx. 10-20 hours per week/ 2-3 days per week). This position also requires daily travel throughout Staten Island and reliable transportation is a MUST. Fluent SPANISH Speaking is a PLUS.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

Facilitate individual and group counseling
Attend and participate in professional development and staff training
Implement and assist in the creation of evidence-based curriculum
Conduct assessments and complete prevention counseling paperwork, in a timely manner based on departmental policies and procedures.
Complete documentation corresponding to delivery of prevention services
Monitor data collection and attendance records; accurately maintain record keeping based on departmental needs and protocols
Demonstrate positive leadership and act as a positive role model to participants and staff within the department and including staff from other departments within UAU.
Responsible for providing and creating engagement within the community and target population participants by providing outreach support to those identified as at-risk
Publicly address community members in a public forum, whereas the Prevention Specialist is responsible for educating and marketing prevention services. 
Develop, enforce and teach age appropriate social, physical and emotional behaviors
Administrative tasks and duties to be completed in a timely manner, based on deadlines and department policies and procedures
Effectively provide daily, weekly and monthly communication updates related to Prevention both via email and departmental meetings.
Abide by all safety protocols as outlined by OASAS, Department of Health/OCFS, DYCD and UAU
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Early Childhood Education or other directly fields required
Must be 18 years or older
Reliable mode of transportation
Valid drivers license
2+ years of direct working experience in youth services or school aged children (5yrs to 18yrs of age)
Ability to work on community outreach and administrative tasks
Experience using Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint, Google Drive and remote video platforms
Strong verbal, problem solving and written communication skills
Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently, including meeting deadlines, while contributing to a collaborative team effort
Willing and able to take initiative and allow for a flexible work schedule; including some nights and occasional weekends
Demonstrates an understanding of and values individuals’ different capacities, cultures, and abilities

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.

Involves sitting approximately 50% of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time.
Working both indoors and outdoors (based on appropriate and safe weather conditions).
May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet or more of the observer).
