PREMIUM ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

Job Details: Job Location: Headquarters - San Diego, CA, Salary Range: $22.00 - $25.00Hourly, Position Summary

The Premium Accounting Technician is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and administrative tasks related to premium payments. This role involves reviewing, processing, and reconciling transactions with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a commitment to delivering excellent internal and external customer service.

Responsibilities

Process and post premium payments accurately into the accounting system.
Review and sort incoming payments, including checks, cash, and electronic transfers.
Identify and reject payments for delinquent accounts according to policy.
Process and resolve returned payments from financial institutions.
Approve and disburse premium refunds, including those related to cancelled policies.
Review and post web-based premium payments and reinstatements.
Operate and maintain remittance processing equipment.
Monitor and reconcile producer bank account activity, including performing account sweeps.
Communicate professionally and clearly with customers, vendors, and internal staff via phone, email, and written correspondence, maintaining strong customer service and professionalism even under pressure.
Investigate and resolve inquiries related to premium payments by analyzing records and documenting outcomes.
Maintain documentation in appropriate systems using accurate data entry practices.
Ensure timely response to inquiries and tasks.
Adhere to company, state, and federal timelines and regulatory requirements.
Work adaptably and collaboratively within a fast-paced, high-volume team environment.
Uphold a high standard of attendance and punctuality.
Accept and apply feedback constructively to support continuous improvement.
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications: Qualifications & Skills

Solid math and calculation skills, including the ability to accurately compute interest, percentages, prorations, and other financial figures used in premium transactions and refunds.
Proficient in verbal and written communication across diverse audiences.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and standard accounting software systems.
Keyboard and 10-key proficiency required.
Ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Familiarity with P&C (Property & Casualty) insurance practices is preferred.
High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certificate from college or technical school preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of office experience required; accounting or insurance-related experience a plus.
A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
