The Utah State Hospital is seeking a Physical Therapy Intern in Provo, UT to provide direct and indirect operational, clinical, and logistical support to licensed physical therapy staff. Our Physical Therapy Team is dedicated to enhancing the physical mobility, functional independence, and overall quality of life for mentally ill patients in our beautiful inpatient facility. This position can assist students in the completion of their degree or certification with hands-on, community experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist physical therapists in carrying out individualized exercise programs for residents.

• Assist in maintaining records and taking notes. 

• Provide compassionate, person-centered assistance during positioning, therapeutic exercise, ambulation, and range-of-motion routines.

• Provide clinical setup and logistical support. 

• Sanitize, inspect, and maintain therapeutic equipment, treatment rooms and clinic areas in accordance with facility infection-control standards.

• Maintain organized inventory of physical therapy supplies, orthotics, and clinical mobility aids.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with mentally ill individuals.

• Basic knowledge of human anatomy and body mechanics.

• Ability to work comfortably in a hospital environment.

Preferences

• CPR / First Aid Certification.

• Experience with Physical Therapy or Medical experience. 

• Ability to work well with multidisciplinary teams.

Supplemental Information

• Utah State Hospital provides comprehensive violence prevention and deescalation training for all employees during orientation. Ongoing training is provided to prioritize staff and patient safety.

Physical Requirements  

• Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

• Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
