Physical Therapist [Per Diem]

SUMMARY

As a Physical Therapist, you welcome patients and put them at ease. You provide Physical Therapy to patients with care and compassion to ensure rehabilitation success.

STATUS: Per Diem              

LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital -1425 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621        

DEPARTMENT: Physical Medicine & Rehab

SCHEDULE: Day shift, shifts can vary from 8-10 hours in length; 7 am-3:30 pmfor an 8-hour shift and/or 7 am-5:30 pm for a 10-hr. shift

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Patient Evaluation. Assess patient impairment and current condition to evaluate rehabilitation potential; report on patient progress, communicate effectively with physician and other team members; counsel patient and family according to degree of disability or impairment

• Treatment & Planning. Develop physical therapy treatment project for each patient, including training in functional mobility, use of assistive devices, therapeutic exercise, balance and coordination retraining, massage, heat, and cryotherapy; apply diagnostic and progressive functionality tests

• Leadership. Train, mentor, and coach team members to ensure standards of the department are met; address scheduling needs to ensure proper coverage is provided

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctorate or Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy, or Bachelor’s degree with prior experience as a licensed Physical Therapist required.

• Required Licensure/Certification Skills:

  •    Current New York State license or a limited permit as a Registered Physical Therapist 
  •    If a New York State license or limited permit is not held, must be hired within 90 days of graduation from a New York State or APTA- accredited physical therapist education program and meet Practice Exemption under New York State Physical Therapy License Requirements. 
  •    If working in Homecare or traveling between locations, a NYS license is required.

• Must possess personal characteristics that reflect assertiveness, self-motivation, and a personal commitment to health and fitness.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior Physical Therapist experience preferred

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
