PHILANTHROPY OFFICER

PLEASE NOTE: This position is open to clients living in Tampa, Sarasota, Fort Myers, Naples, or Tallahassee/Panhandle. This position can be remote or in one of our offices. 

JOB SUMMARY

The Philanthropy Officer builds and strengthens meaningful, long-term relationships with donors and prospects who have the capacity and affinity to make significant philanthropic investments in One More Child. Reporting to the Senior Director of Philanthropy, this role engages and grows an assigned portfolio within a specific region, engaging donors through discovery, meaningful engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The Philanthropy Officer develops individualized engagement strategies, builds a healthy pipeline of qualified prospects, and secures annual, capital, endowment, Comprehensive Campaign, and other strategic commitments in alignment with donor interests and One More Child’s priorities. Working collaboratively with the Executive Director of Philanthropy, Chief Advancement Officer and other organizational leaders, the Philanthropy Officer serves as a trusted ambassador for One More Child and invites donors into meaningful participation in the organization’s mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

Donor Relationships & Portfolio Management

• Manage an assigned portfolio of donors, building authentic, long-term relationships through meaningful engagement, discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Develop individualized relationship strategies based on each donor’s interests, passions, capacity, giving history, and relationship with One More Child.
• Maintain consistent, thoughtful contact with donors through personal visits, calls, meetings, stewardship touchpoints, ministry experiences, events, and other meaningful engagement opportunities.
• Listen to and understand donor interests and motivations, connecting them with opportunities to meaningfully advance the mission of One More Child.
• Create meaningful donor experiences in partnership with regional, campus, program, and organizational leaders that deepen understanding of One More Child’s mission and impact.
• Personally solicit and steward 5- and 6-figure gifts, multi-year commitments, and other philanthropic investments in collaboration with the Executive Director of Philanthropy and organizational leaders.

Prospect & Pipeline Development

• Identify, engage in discovery, and cultivate prospective donors with the capacity and affinity to make significant investments in One More Child.
• Build and maintain a healthy portfolio and pipeline, advancing qualified prospects through intentional relationship strategies and appropriate next steps.
• Participate in regular portfolio and pipeline reviews with the Executive Director of Philanthropy and the Director of Development Strategy, using relationship intelligence to prioritize opportunities and strengthen donor investment.
• Partner with the Director of Development Strategy to effectively use CRM data, metrics, analytics, and pipeline reporting to inform portfolio management and fundraising strategies.

Strategic & Campaign Fundraising

• Develop and execute donor strategies that align donor interests and passions with One More Child’s strategic priorities and funding opportunities.
• Participate in the Comprehensive Campaign and other strategic fundraising initiatives, cultivating and soliciting individual commitments for capital, endowment, annual giving, and other organizational priorities.
• Collaborate with the Executive Director of Philanthropy, Chief Advancement Officer, Senior Vice President of Strategic Development, and other organizational leaders on significant donor strategies and solicitations.

Donor Communications & Collaboration

• Provide donor insight and strategic direction for proposals, presentations, stewardship communications, and other materials supporting cultivation and solicitation.
• Partner with the Director of Development Communications to develop compelling, donor-centered proposals and communications that connect donor interests with meaningful philanthropic opportunities.
• Collaborate with Advancement, Communications, Programs, Partnerships, regional, and campus teams to ensure a coordinated and compelling donor experience.
• Serve as an ambassador for One More Child, clearly and authentically communicating its mission, impact, vision, and opportunities for philanthropic partnership through events, personal visits, and speaking opportunities.

Performance & Professional Development

• Meet established fundraising, portfolio, meaningful engagement, and pipeline goals while maintaining a focus on long-term donor relationships and sustainable philanthropic growth.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions, strategies, next steps, and portfolio activity in the organization’s CRM.
• Continuously develop knowledge of One More Child’s programs, impact, strategic priorities, and funding opportunities to effectively engage and inspire donors.
• Demonstrate integrity, discretion, professionalism, initiative, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical, relationship-based philanthropy.
• Stay current with best practices in philanthropy and continually strengthen skills in donor engagement, discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Travel within assigned region regularly; at least annual visit to Headquarters in Lakeland.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in philanthropy, fundraising, development, sales, relationship management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain authentic, trust-based relationships with individuals and organizations.
• Experience cultivating relationships and securing financial support, investments, or other commitments from donors, customers, clients, or partners.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen effectively, ask thoughtful questions, understand motivations, and communicate compellingly with diverse audiences.
• Ability to develop and execute individualized relationship strategies and manage multiple relationships, priorities, and opportunities with strong organization and follow-through.
• Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, professionalism, integrity, and discretion in working with individuals and confidential information.
• Ability to work collaboratively with organizational leaders, colleagues, and cross-functional teams to advance shared goals.
• Commitment to the mission, values, and Christian identity of One More Child.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly in assigned region for donor visits, meetings, ministry experiences, events, and other relationship-building activities.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated experience in major gifts, individual philanthropy, or relationship-based fundraising, preferably within a nonprofit or ministry environment.
• Proven success personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding significant individual gifts, including multi-year commitments.
• Experience securing six-figure or transformational gifts.
• Experience participating in a Comprehensive, capital, or endowment campaign.
• Established relationships within the philanthropic community, particularly within the assigned geographic region.
• Experience managing a donor portfolio and using a CRM to track donor relationships, engagement, strategies, and next steps.
• Experience using fundraising metrics, analytics, and pipeline information to inform donor strategies and prioritize opportunities.
• Familiarity with relationship-based fundraising principles centered on discovery, meaningful engagement, and donor-centered philanthropy.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to operate a forklift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. 

This job requires the ability to work in stressful conditions from time to time and remain focused for extended periods of time. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds (boxes, documents, and/or equipment) may be required on occasion.

Job functions are performed in a normal office environment, with the option of hybrid/remote. Regular travel within assigned region and one to two visits per year to the headquarters in Lakeland are expected.
