Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care within Unity Health Care’s correctional healthcare setting. This position performs a wide range of duties, including dispensing prescribed medications, providing patient education, serving as a clinical resource to healthcare providers, supervising pharmacy operations and staff, and providing technical and operational support to ensure safe and effective pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and supervise all aspects of pharmacy operations.
• Supervise and provide direction to Pharmacy Technicians.
• Dispense prescribed medications accurately and safely.
• Provide medication education and counseling as appropriate.
• Serve as a pharmaceutical resource to healthcare providers and clinical staff.
• Identify potential misuse or abuse of pharmaceuticals and recommend appropriate corrective or remedial action.
• Assist with the development and preparation of monthly and quarterly pharmacy activity reports.
• Maintain adequate inventory of medications, pharmaceuticals, and other necessary supplies to support safe and efficient operations.
• Ensure compliance with infection control measures, pharmacy procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Develop and provide training to nursing staff regarding medications, pharmaceuticals, and related topics.
• Recommend updates or changes to pharmacy instructions, regulations, policies, and operational guidance as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required.
• Current licensure as a Pharmacist in the District of Columbia pursuant to applicable D.C. licensing requirements.
• Prior retail or community pharmacy experience required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical pharmacy experience.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of medication management, pharmaceutical practices, and patient safety standards.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Ability to work effectively within a correctional healthcare environment.
