We're seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Certified Personal Trainer to provide exceptional one-on-one training while leading engaging small group fitness programs for both adults and youth. This is an exciting opportunity to help members of all ages build strength, improve confidence, and develop lifelong healthy habits in our welcoming, state-of-the-art fitness center.
Whether you're coaching an individual through a personalized fitness plan or leading a high-energy small group class, you'll play an important role in helping our members succeed.
What You'll Do
💪 Design and deliver personalized one-on-one training sessions based on each member's goals and abilities.
🏋️ Lead motivating small group personal training classes for adults and youth, creating safe, effective, and engaging workouts for participants of varying fitness levels.
🤝 Build meaningful relationships with members by providing encouragement, accountability, and ongoing support.
🏃 Engage members on the wellness floor through exercise demonstrations, equipment orientations, and fitness recommendations.
📋 Conduct complimentary fitness consultations and develop individualized exercise programs.
⭐ Monitor member progress, modify exercises as needed, and celebrate successes along the way.
🧼 Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming fitness environment while ensuring equipment is properly maintained.
💙 Serve as a YMCA ambassador by providing exceptional customer service and creating an inclusive environment where every member feels supported.
What You'll Bring
✔ Current Personal Training certification (ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent).
✔ Experience providing one-on-one personal training and/or leading group fitness or small group training.
✔ Experience or interest in coaching both adult and youth small group fitness classes.
✔ Strong knowledge of exercise science, strength training, functional movement, and injury prevention.
✔ Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
✔ A positive, motivating coaching style with the ability to inspire participants of all ages and fitness levels.

Qualifications:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in physical education or related field preferred
Certification from a nationally recognized agency such as ACE, AFFA, ASCM, NSCA, and NSPA preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading classes and activities, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting
Must be able to lift 45-pound weight plates
Must be able to work outside when weather permits
Must be able to stand for long periods
Ability to listen, hear, and discern members & program participants' wants, needs, and interests
Ability to respond to safety and emergencies
Ability to demonstrate equipment used for exercise training

The YMCA of the North Shore is comprised of six local YMCAs that have joined together or been developed over the last decade and a half to create one YMCA association. YMCAs in our association date back to the 1850s, beginning with the Salem YMCA. In 1994, when the Beverly Regional YMCA merged with the Cape Ann YMCA, our association started developing and strengthening a sense of community across the North Shore. The Salem and Marblehead/Swampscott YMCAs joined our association in 1999, officially creating the YMCA of the North Shore.
With the combined resources of four YMCAs, our newly formed association invested in a property in Ipswich, launched a capital campaign and built a new YMCA. The building opened in December of 1999; bringing the number of local Ys in our association to five. Numerous renovations and additions took place over the years to add space and amenities to all five YMCAs. In 2006, the Haverhill YMCA joined the YMCA of the North Shore, growing our service area to 25 cities and towns. And in 2014, the YMCA took over the former Rockingham Athletic Club, creating the Plaistow Community YMCA in Plaistow, NH.
