Overview

The Ward Family Heart Center at Children's Mercy Kansas City is seeking a Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist to join a nationally recognized pediatric cardiovascular program with a large regional referral base, advanced catheterization capabilities, and a strong commitment to innovation, education, and multidisciplinary care. The successful candidate would join an existing group of 45 cardiologists (40 in Kansas City, 2 in Wichita, KS, 2 in Springfield, MO and 1 in Topeka, KS), 4 CV surgeons, and over 30 APNs. Trainees currently in their 4th year Interventional Cardiology fellowship are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Cardiology and have a 4th year fellowship in interventional cardiology. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills and a commitment to collaborative, family-centered care. There are ample opportunities for clinical/translational research and teaching (medical students, residents and Pediatric Cardiology fellows).  Opportunities for participation in ACHD EP care are also available. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Perform a wide spectrum of congenital and structural heart interventions, including ASD and PDA closure, transcatheter valve therapies, angioplasty, stent implantation, and coarctation interventions.
• Perform diagnostic catheterization and advanced hemodynamic assessments in patients with congenital and acquired heart disease.
• Participate in cardiac catheterization laboratory call coverage.
• Provide outpatient consultation and longitudinal follow-up for patients with congenital heart disease.
• Participate in inpatient cardiology service coverage and multidisciplinary care planning.
• Collaborate closely with cardiac surgery, cardiac intensive care, electrophysiology, transplant, and advanced imaging teams.
• Participate in teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, and pediatric cardiology fellows.
• Opportunities exist for clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and program development.

Our Heart Center serves a population of over 5 million in the heart of the U.S.A. We perform over 500 cardiac operations, 600 cardiac catheterizations, over 200 invasive EP procedures, 18,000 outpatient visits, and more than 20,000 echocardiograms annually. Our two state-of the art catheterization labs are both hybrid labs and equipped with the latest 3D imaging and EP technology. Telehealth is available and facilitates our outreach clinics. We have video-conferencing capabilities that are routinely used by providers from distant locations to dial into our conferences for patient care and education. The Ward Family Heart Center program consistently ranks amount he top programs nationally by USNWR.

Children's Mercy Heart Center is home to one of the region's leading pediatric cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology programs, providing comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic catheter-based procedures for infants, children, and adults with congenital heart disease. The program performs a broad range of structural and congenital heart interventions, including device closures, balloon valvuloplasty, pulmonary valve replacement, angioplasty, and stent placement, while working closely with cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac intensive care, and advanced imaging teams to deliver multidisciplinary care. As part of a nationally recognized pediatric heart center, the interventional cardiology team also supports fellowship education, research, quality improvement initiatives, and outreach services throughout the region.

Our super-specialty resources include Electrophysiology, Cardiac Transplantation/Heart Failure, Interventional Cardiology and Advanced Cardiac Imaging (fetal echo, 3D echo, trans-esophageal echo, CT, MRI and 3D printing). We also provide specialized, team-based care in Fetal Cardiology (with on-site delivery services for high-risk neonates), Interstage Monitoring (CHAMP), Preventive Cardiology, Cardiac Genetics, Fontan Clinic, Pulmonary Hypertension, Pulmonary Vein Stenosis, and Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Services.
