Patient Services Specialist

Job Details: Job Location: Santa Rosa - Santa Rosa, CA, Salary Range: $25.64 - $34.97Hourly, POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general supervision of the Medical Office Manager, the Patient Services Specialist will provide in-person assistance to individuals and families in need of help with both registering as a new patient and the insurance application process for Sonoma County Indian Health Project, Inc. (SCIHP). The Patient Services Specialist will interview applicants and determine eligibility for SCIHP services. Will be available to support individuals and families with understanding SCIHP services and their health insurance options. This position will be responsible for initiating, tracking, following up, processing and reporting the status of all benefit applications. The Patient Services Specialist will provide assistance in a culturally appropriate manner to the patients of SCIHP.
Qualifications: Qualifications:

Achieve the Certified Enrollment Counselor Certificate within three (3) months of hire.

Must pass Covered California Background investigation.

Tracks and prepares reports on the number of applications processed as well as number of incomplete applications pending additional information monthly and as requested by supervisor.

Coordinate service and benefits between SCIHP and California and county agencies on behalf of patient benefits, as requested and permitted by the patient.

Must comply with Federal and California laws regarding the use and disclosure of individually identifiable health information, with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).

Ensure the confidentiality of all applications, records, and any information received.

Basic interviewing skills for the purpose of gathering information and explaining policies or clarifying information.

Demonstrates knowledge of available health benefit programs with Medi-Cal and/or Covered California plans.

Schedules appointments with individuals and families to screen for eligibility and obtain required information, Tribal documentation and other information as needed to complete new patient registration.

Establish and maintain constructive working relationships.

Must possess current CPR certification or attend SCIHP CPR training to become certified

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and background investigation.

Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends to support outreach activities, enrollment events, health fairs, and tribal community events. Some travel may be required.

Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Perform other duties as assigned.
