POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pastry Cashier is responsible for providing friendly, efficient customer service and accurate cash handling support within the bakery and pastry department. This role assists customers with bakery and pastry purchases, processes transactions, supports order taking in person and by telephone, maintains a clean and organized service area, and helps ensure food safety, sanitation, and company standards are consistently met. The Pastry Cashier models the company's values by creating a welcoming customer experience and supporting the store team as needed.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Greet customers promptly and provide courteous, helpful service in the bakery and pastry areas;
• Accurately process customer transactions using cash registers, scanners, and related equipment, including cash, credit, debit, coupons, refunds, voids, and transaction cancellations in accordance with company procedures;
• Assist customers with bakery and pastry product selections, answer questions, and communicate product availability or special order information as needed;
• Take food orders in person and by telephone, record order details accurately, and communicate orders to the appropriate team members;
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked service area, including display cases, counters, packaging supplies, and customer-facing areas;
• Follow food safety, sanitation, safety, loss prevention, and store operating standards at all times;
• Monitor product presentation and notify the Pastry Lead or department leadership of low inventory, quality concerns, or customer needs;
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Customer Service:

• Create a positive customer experience by being attentive, approachable, and responsive to customer needs.
• Resolve routine customer questions or concerns professionally and escalate matters when appropriate.
• Work with speed, accuracy, and care while maintaining service quality.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Food Handler Card, as required by applicable state or local regulations;
• Prior cashier, customer service, retail, bakery, pastry, or food service experience preferred;
• Ability to operate a cash register, scanner, scale, telephone, and other department equipment as assigned;
• Basic math skills and ability to handle cash, make change, and follow transaction procedures accurately;
• Strong customer service, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills;
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK CONDITIONS:
The physical demands and work conditions below represent those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities:

• WALKING: Frequently throughout the shift while moving within the department and store.
• STANDING: Continuously throughout the shift while assisting customers and operating the register.
• REACHING, BENDING, AND STOOPING: Frequently to access products, supplies, packaging, and equipment.
• LIFTING/CARRYING: Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally, with assistance as needed.
• WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a retail grocery environment with exposure to bakery and pastry products, refrigerated or heated display areas, cleaning supplies, and varying customer traffic levels.
• SAFETY: Must follow all company safety, food handling, sanitation, and loss prevention policies and procedures.
