What You Will Do

This role provides specialized evaluation, diagnostic, and therapeutic services for patients with voice, swallowing, airway, and related disorders. The Voice & Swallowing Specialist/Speech Language Pathologist collaborates closely with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver evidence-based treatment, perform advanced diagnostic procedures, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and ensure compliance with all professional, regulatory, and organizational standards.

Perform advanced diagnostic procedures including videostroboscopy, FEES, endoscopic evaluations, acoustic voice analyses, and clinical swallowing assessments.
Evaluate and treat patients with voice, swallowing, airway, chronic cough, vocal cord dysfunction, and head and neck cancer-related disorders.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including voice and swallowing therapy and teletherapy services when appropriate.
Provide education, counseling, and home program instruction to patients and caregivers to support treatment outcomes.
Deliver specialized care for laryngectomy patients, including pre-surgical counseling and post-surgical communication management.
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to coordinate care, review findings, and optimize patient outcomes.
Complete accurate clinical documentation, coding, and charge entry in EPIC while ensuring compliance with regulatory, licensure, and organizational requirements.
Maintain competency in infection prevention, equipment management, scope disinfection, and clinical safety standards.

A Typical Day

Your day begins by reviewing the patient schedule, messages, and clinical documentation needs. Throughout the day, you will conduct voice evaluations, swallowing assessments, endoscopic procedures, therapy sessions, and follow-up visits. You will collaborate with physicians during voice rounds, provide patient education, document encounters in EPIC, and coordinate care with fellow team members. The day may include both in-person and telehealth visits, as well as specialized procedures performed in dedicated treatment and procedure rooms.
Qualifications: What You Will Bring

Education, Licensure & Certifications

Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Speech Language Pathology.
Current North Carolina Speech Language Pathology license or eligibility for temporary licensure.
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred or eligibility to complete Clinical Fellowship requirements.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Experience

Three years of experience preferred for experienced clinicians.
New graduates completing a Clinical Fellowship Year are encouraged to apply if they have completed at least one full-time externship in voice and swallowing.
Experience with voice, swallowing, head and neck cancer, or airway disorders preferred.

Preferred Clinical Competencies

FEES and MBSS experience.
Flexible and rigid endoscopy experience.
Evaluation and treatment of voice and swallowing disorders.
Circumlaryngeal massage and myofascial release techniques.
Experience with chronic cough, VCD/PVFM, and disordered breathing.
Laryngectomy care and TEP management.
RVT, LSVT, MDTP, or other specialty certifications/training preferred.
