Title: Substitute
Purpose of Position: To help Kindergarten to 6th grade students learn subject matter and/or skills in a learning environment that will contribute to the development as responsible lifelong learners.
Employment Status: Part-time Reporting
Reports to: Teacher, Principal or Director of Operations
Location: Assigned Campus
Position Summary
Audubon Charter School is seeking passionate, talented, and dedicated Substitute Teachers. We are pursuing candidates who are committed to the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of our students and desire to develop in their profession. He or she will be responsible for creating positive classroom environments that are conducive to learning, establishing an effective rapport with students and families, and providing challenging and stimulating learning opportunities during instruction. This employee is responsible for assisting teachers in regular classrooms or special compensatory programs, or in the absence of the teacher, may provide instruction to students.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Assume all duties of the regular classroom teacher, including the execution of lesson plans.
- Create a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning
- Maintain normal classroom routines and discipline procedures
- Take attendance in accordance with school policies.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
- Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to administration immediately.
- Meet the standards of performance for his/her individual teaching assignment.
- Assist in implementing Audubon Charter policies concerning safety in the classroom.
- Maintain and respect confidentiality of students and school personnel information.
- Perform other related duties as required.

We focus on cultivating the whole child through individualized hands-on learning, multi-cultural and language exposure, and emphasis on arts education.
Established in 1981 as a Montessori school, Audubon Charter School also became an official French School in an historical agreement between the French Government and the State of Louisiana. It was chartered in 2006 under the governance of the Board of French and Montessori Education, Inc. (FAME, Inc.). In response to overwhelming demand for our school year over year, Audubon Gentilly opened in Fall 2018 to enable more New Orleans students to have access to a high-quality, non-traditional education. Audubon’s mission is to foster a culturally rich and academically rigorous learning environment using French and Montessori curricula and a comprehensive arts curriculum.
We pride ourselves on offering a high-quality, non-traditional education for New Orleans students with programming not available at any other public school in the city. Audubon Uptown offers two programs in one school for over 800 students in grades K-8, a Montessori program and an authentic French program. Audubon Gentilly currently serves students in grades K-7 and will grow to serve up to 450 students in grades K-8 by 2024. Audubon Gentilly features a unique academic model, with Montessori-based academics and French language infusions. In 2025, Audubon was granted an opportunity to expand our network to the Capital City of Baton Rouge. In the fall of the 2025-26 school year, Audubon Baton Rouge will open its doors, servicing students from grades K-5. Audubon Baton Rouge will follow the model of our Gentilly Campus, with an innovative academic model with focus on arts inclusions.
