Part Time Route Setters are responsible for helping with boulder / top-rope / lead resets. ensuring that the quality of the routes are fun, safe and up to Rock Spot Climbing standards. They also assist in regular maintenance overseen by the setting department, and setting components of competitions and other special events. All activities are at the direction of the Director of Route Setting and Local Head Route Setters.

We are currently looking for a part-time setter to work at both our Boston Dedham, and Brookline locations in Massachusetts.  Depending on applicants’ experience, skill level and availability, we will have between 2-4 days of work available, with the possibility of a benefits eligible full-time position for applicable candidates.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Contribute to Outstanding Resets - Actively partake in resets from start to finish, this includes making sure all routes are graded, holds are set-screwed, and that all tools are put away. During the setting process, making sure that proper safety protocols are being followed per the Rock Spot Setters Handbook. 

• Ensure High Quality Product - Making sure the setters are qualified to set at the appropriate level of difficulty and make sure every move on every climb is done. Always deferring to the standard guidelines of making sure the climbs set are fun, safe and up to Rock Spot Climbing standards.

• Open to Feedback - Listen to feedback from multiple sources in a positive manner and defer to the judgment of the Director of Route Setting and the Regional Head Setter.

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for a skilled climber and setter who has a commitment to high quality routes/problems that climbers at every grade will find both fun and challenging.

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Advanced level of climbing skills (knowledge in multiple disciplines preferred)
• Previous route setting experience required
• Ability to commute between two Boston locations preferred

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and move up to 50lbs
• Must be able to set for extended periods of time from a harness and/or ladder
