About the Program: 

The John Spoor Broome Library is a critical part of the CSUCI experience. The Library supports the learning and research communities of our diverse campus through its collections, and robust information literacy program. The Broome Library is prized by faculty and students alike for its careful attention to physical space, collections, special programming, and services such as equipment lending. The Library’s commitment to comprehensive reference service, active learning pedagogy, multicultural programming, and range of methods for gathering student input reflect its alignment with and support of the campus’s four mission centers. Furthermore, the integration of information literacy standards into the campus General Education learning outcomes creates an effective foundation for its core educational mission. 
We believe that the library is a powerful force for equity and we embrace the strategies for excellence as articulated by the Association of College & Research Libraries which value different ways of knowing and seek to identify and work to eliminate barriers to inclusive and  equitable services, spaces, resources, and scholarship. The part time reference librarian will be strongly focused on providing high quality service to students and faculty at a public service desk.

About the Position:

Will support student-centered learning, focusing on building library research skills and engaging students with the tools of scholarship.  This part-time position will provide reference services to the campus community with a schedule that may include nights or weekends.  The person in this position may also be assigned to work on project-related assignments such as LibGuides, copy cataloging, developing outreach materials, hold library information literacy sessions as assigned, and other work.

Minimum Degree Requirements: 

Master of Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program

Required Qualifications:

• Master of Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program
• Experience providing one-on-one reference and research services to a diverse population
• Evidence of flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work successfully in a complex, dynamic, and diverse environment with competing demands
• Evidence of a strong commitment to reference services and service excellence to a diverse community
• Demonstrated forward-thinking approach to challenges and opportunities
• Evidence of effective cross-cultural interpersonal and communication skills (i.e., multicultural competencies)
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a diverse community and team environment
• Applicants should demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with a broad student population and provide mentorship that supports student academic success.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience with the Springshare suite, Alma, Canva, familiarity with bibliographic record formats and metadata systems is helpful.
• Professional experience in an academic library setting
• Experience working with library users of diverse ages, as well as from various socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds

Compensation: 

California State University Librarian 12month Salary Schedules (anticipated hiring ranges)

• Range 2: $6,288-$7,658
• Range 3: $7,127-$15,211
• Range 4: $7,830-$16,697
• Range 5: $9,883-$17,490

Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked.
