LIBERAL STUDIES, PART-TIME LECTURER POOL

The Liberal Studies Department, an undergraduate teacher preparation program within the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers from our local geographic area. Positions available as needed during the Fall and/or Spring semester of the 2026-27 academic year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base.

Applicants with an academic and practical background in the following disciplines are encouraged to apply: Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, History, Social Studies, English, Language Arts, Literacy, Elementary School Education and Educational Leadership.

Responsibilities may include teaching one or more undergraduate courses in community-based field experience, storytelling, children's literature, constitutional issues in American education, introduction to the visual and performing arts, as well as application to the K-8 education.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree plus teaching experience in the K-8 classroom and interest in teacher preparation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree and five years K-8 teaching experience in public schools.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
