ANIMAL SCIENCES PART-TIME LECTURER POOL. The Animal Sciences Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2026-2027 academic year. Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate Animal Science courses in animal production and management, and discipline support courses such as nutrition, reproduction, physiology, behavior, embryology, etc.
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor of Science with considerable experience in animal science or related discipline is required.
PREFERRED PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
A Masters in Animal Science or related discipline is preferred.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Animal Sciences Department, includes over 850 students in the two majors, boasts the most comprehensive and the best undergraduate program in livestock production and management in the West. Through its faculty and students, the Department manages commercial herds and flocks of dairy and beef cattle, horses, sheep, swine, and poultry on a farm of some 6,000 acres with the support of several facilities including a state of the art, $6.5 million meat processing center, $10 million equine center, and $6 million animal nutrition center. Recent gifts in excess of $10 million have been given to the Department to enhance these living laboratories where our students gain hands-on experience on our production units. Graduates of Animal Science and Dairy Science are prepared for meaningful careers in the animal industries, allied professions, and graduate studies.
