Department: Student Affairs – Student Financial Wellness and Financial Aid

Reports To: Director, Student Financial Wellness and Financial Aid

LOCATION: District Wide. Green Bay, Marinette, Sturgeon Bay, Shawano

STANDARD HOURS: 20 hours per week. Hours vary and can include day and/or evening hours.

ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall semester but exact start date yet to be determined

PAY: $15.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

NWTC is seeking to hire a community connector to support students participating in the Pathways to Mobility pilot program in partnership with Brown County United Way (BCUW). The pilot is designed to help students—particularly those facing financial and other barriers—successfully complete educational programs and move toward sustainable employment and greater financial stability.

The Community Connector will serve as a trusted, consistent point of contact for participants, helping them identify goals, navigate barriers, connect with community and campus resources, and follow through on agreed-upon next steps. Rather than duplicating services already available through NWTC or community organizations, the Connector will help students navigate existing systems, coordinate supports, and ensure that referrals translate into meaningful assistance through a case management approach.

The role requires strong relationship-building skills, practical problem-solving, knowledge of community resources, and the ability to balance participant-centered support with clear expectations and accountability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Build trusting relationships with participants and serve as a consistent point of contact throughout the pilot.

• Work with participants to identify existing barriers to student success including transportation, childcare, housing, food, finances, healthcare, technology, and other needs

• Work with students to set milestones for success (education, financial, personal goals)

• Work with students to develop practical action plans to address barriers and achieve milestones

• Connect participants to appropriate NWTC and community resources through warm referrals and follow up to ensure services are successfully accessed.

• Help participants navigate challenges, troubleshoot barriers, and build the skills and confidence to independently access resources over time.

• Coordinate with NWTC staff and community partners to support participants while avoiding duplication of existing services.

• Maintain timely documentation of participant goals, interactions, referrals, progress, and outcomes in the program’s data system.

• Identify recurring service gaps or systemic barriers experienced by participants and share insights with BCUW and partners to strengthen the pilot and improve service coordination.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a current NWTC student

• Must be eligible for work-study

• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to build trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Strong listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with NWTC, BCUW, and community partners.

• Strong organizational, follow-up, and time-management skills.

• Ability to navigate community resources and complex service systems.

• Comfort supporting individuals facing financial, educational, employment, or other life barriers.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and accurate participant documentation.

• Basic proficiency with technology and data-tracking systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in community navigation, social services, higher education, workforce development, case management, coaching, or a related field preferred.

• Familiarity with Brown County community resources and/or lived experience navigating education, workforce, or support systems is valued.

• Fluency in English – fluency in another language (Spanish, Somali, Hmong) is an advantage.

• Extended Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or attending meetings

• Mobility: Ability to move around the campus to attend meetings and events

• Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle or operate office equipment, tools, or controls.

• Visual and Auditory: Ability to read documents and communicate effectively with students and staff.

• Light Lifting: Capability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
