Part-time Assistant Pool Manager

Role Summary

City of Cortez is hiring an Assistant Pool Manager (part-time) to support safe, smooth operations across Cortez Aquatic facilities. This role helps keep schedules, maintenance, records, and customer interactions organized so guests and staff have a positive experience.

Key responsibilities include:
- Support staff scheduling and shift coverage
- Assist with daily facility upkeep and maintenance coordination
- Maintain accurate operational records and reports
- Help address patron questions and concerns with professionalism
- Back up the Pool Manager in day-to-day operational needs

Required qualifications/skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience leading people
- Age 18+, or age 17 with one year of experience in Cortez Aquatics
- Valid Colorado driver’s license
- Ability to enforce safety procedures and facility policies with tact and firmness
- Calm, accurate response in emergencies; strong leadership and public relations skills
- Lifeguard Certification preferred

A Typical Shift

You’ll arrive at the Recreation Center or Outdoor Pool and connect briefly with the Pool Manager and on-duty team to confirm the day’s needs. Between assisting with coverage adjustments and checking that logs and forms are up to date, you’ll stay visible on deck and at the front counter—answering patron questions, helping resolve minor issues, and keeping communication clear between staff. As the day moves, you’ll shift between office tasks and facility walkthroughs, staying attentive to changing conditions, weather, and activity levels. You’ll finish by helping ensure notes are handed off cleanly for the next shift so operations stay consistent from open to close.
