Position Summary:  Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a part-time Archaeological Field Technician to assist with monitoring, Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III archaeological investigations, as needed.  A bachelor’s degree in anthropology or a related field and a field school are required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States. Candidate must be available for non-local travel.

Lodging (individual hotel room) and per diem will be provided and/or reimbursed. Mileage to and from the project, project area, and drive time will also be compensated.  Rate based on experience, and number of hours per week will be based on project workload.  

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Compensation for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hour commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We notice that we receive a wide variety of applicants and recognize that the person selected may be less experienced or more experienced. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• The qualified candidate for this position will assist Project and Senior Archaeologists during Phase I-II field work in the South, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and Northeast United States. The candidate will aid in identifying any pre-contact or historic artifacts encountered during shovel test pit (STP) or test unit (TU) excavation. Candidates must be flexible with traveling.
