Parents as Teachers Parent Educator

Thom Anne Sullivan Center is seeking a Parent Educator for its new Parents as Teachers program in Lowell. Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based home visiting model that supports families in strengthening parent-child relationships, promoting healthy child development, increasing school readiness, and connecting families with needed community resources.

The full-time Parent Educator will be salary for full time 40 hours and the salary is $43,680. 

The part time Parent Educator will be salary part time 20 hours and the hours could be flexible for M-F between the hours of 8-4.The salary for part-time would be 20 hours at $21,841.

The Parent Educator will provide family-centered, strength-based home visiting services to a caseload of approximately 12 families. Home visits will occur primarily in the family’s home and will focus on supporting parents in understanding their child’s development, strengthening positive parent-child interactions, promoting nurturing parenting practices, and helping families build confidence, problem-solving skills, and self-sufficiency. The Parent Educator will also conduct screenings and assessments according to program requirements, assist families in setting and working toward goals, support referrals to health and community services, and maintain accurate documentation and reporting.

Position Responsibilities:

• Provide regular, long-term home visiting services to enrolled families.
• Establish trusting, supportive relationships with families using a strength-based and family-centered approach.
• Support parents in strengthening parent-child relationships and promoting healthy child development.
• Provide parent education related to child development, school readiness, health, safety, and positive parenting practices.
• Assist families in identifying goals, monitoring progress, and building problem-solving and advocacy skills.
• Conduct required screenings, assessments, and program tools according to the standardized timeline.
• Connect families to community resources, healthcare, and other supportive services as needed.
• Maintain accurate client records, documentation, and program reporting.
• Participate in required training, meetings, and Parents as Teachers Foundational Training.
• Report concerns related to child maltreatment, child/family safety, mental health, substance use, or domestic violence in accordance with mandated reporter responsibilities.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and client confidentiality.
• Occasionally may need to work flexible hours, including some evenings, to accommodate family schedules and group events.

Position Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years of supervised experience working with young children, birth to age 5, and/or families.
• Knowledge of child growth and development, parent-child relationships, and family support services.
• Ability to build rapport with families and support them in a non-judgmental, empathetic, and culturally responsive manner.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, organizational, and time management skills.
• Knowledge of Lowell-area community resources and services preferred.
• Ability to work independently, remain accountable, and manage documentation requirements.
• Comfort with basic computer skills, including email, internet use, and word processing.
• Bilingual skills are preferred for candidates serving bilingual communities. 
• Reliable transportation required; valid driver’s license, dependable vehicle, and insurance required if transporting families.
• Ability to complete Parents as Teachers Foundational Training within two months of hire.
• Ability to successfully complete required background checks.
