CPNYC’s mission is to support and advocate for the children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against root causes that affect the communities we serve, including systemic racism, poverty, and bias in our nation’s criminal justice system. CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children’s centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child’s individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience.

Position Overview: The Parent Engagement Manager plays a key role in fostering strong, consistent communication and collaboration between CPNYC’s program and the families it serves. Working under the supervision of the Program Director, the Parent Engagement Manager builds meaningful relationships with parents and caregivers, facilitates engagement activities, and ensures that families are informed, supported, and empowered as active participants in their child’s development and educational experience. The Parent Engagement Manager also mentors and supervises program interns, and serves as a liaison to address family questions, concerns, and feedback. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Essential Job Functions

Family Engagement and Communication

Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and caregivers, keeping them informed about CPNYC’s progress, events, and activities
Foster positive relationships with parents and encourage active participation in the program
Maintain open communication with parents to support children’s development
Send mass communications to parents by email, text blast, bulletin board posting, and flyer
Address parent concerns or conflicts in partnership with the Program Director and ensure timely resolution
Serve as liaison between families and the program’s support staff
Increase parent involvement in the program by working closely with school, parent, and community organizations

Family and Prison Connection

Support and manage the development and connectivity between parents and CPNYC’s selected prisons, including Sunday Smiles and Letter Writing, to ensure the quality of relationship with the multiplicity of prisons our families are located
Maintain the system of consistency in how CPNYC communicates and builds with the prisons our families are located

Events, Workshops, and Enrollment

Organize and coordinate events, meetings, and workshops that engage parents and strengthen the community connection
Manage the Parent Advisory Board
Conduct follow-up calls regarding enrollment and participation
Assist in the overall recruitment and registration of participants

Intern Supervision

Mentor, train, and supervise interns, providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for professional development
Support interns in improving their skills in child supervision and program support
Assist in planning and implementing activities, ensuring interns are effectively engaging children and maintaining program standards
Act as a liaison between interns, staff, and parents, ensuring smooth communication and effective integration of interns into the program team
Provide support to Social Workers and Social Work Interns in preparation for their workshops

Program and Administrative Support

Provide general administrative and logistical support to the Program Director
Complete special projects as required under the direction of the Program Director
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Required Knowledge, Skill and Experience

Education and Experience:

Bilingual in Spanish is required
Bachelor’s degree preferred; areas of study include General Education (K–8), Special Education, Social Work, Teaching, Professional Child Care, Psychology, or a related field
Minimum of two years of experience, or comparable, supporting the social-emotional well-being of elementary or middle school students, including at least one year in an after-school setting
Experience engaging parents and addressing concerns, and supporting families through workshops, family interaction, and intervention
Demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting families and students in educational settings; experience working with a diverse student population helpful
Comfortable facilitating parent trainings, with a social and emotional training background
Knowledge of OCFS programs
Well versed in managing and creating networking opportunities for CPNYC
Excellent communication skills, and energetic and enthusiastic in working with youth and parents
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and capable of accessing and transmitting information using a computer

Conditions of Employment

Employment with Children of Promise, NYC is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of all pre-employment requirements, including verification of employment history and professional references, clearance through the New York State Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, fingerprint-supported criminal history record checks as required for work with children, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

COMPENSATION:

Commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000 per annum.
