Position Overview and Responsibilities:

An opportunity exists for a self-motivated, hard-working individual, with strong mechanical, maintenance and construction experience to fill a maintenance position at Rodman Campground and Recreation Area located approximately 8 miles southwest of Palatka, FL. Resources include the approximately 9,200 acre Rodman Reservoir with unique natural and cultural resources and diverse recreational opportunities such as camping, picnicking, fishing, nature appreciation, boating, canoeing and hiking. Rodman Reservoir and its surrounding property is one of Florida’s most significant outdoor recreation features. The park protects a large diversity of wildlife habitat and numerous endangered species.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position will perform duties associated with the upkeep and protection of State Parks and recreational areas for the use of visitors.

This position is responsible for the maintenance, preservation, protection, and operation of trailheads, trails, recreation areas, and other facilities located in the east end area of the Cross-Florida Greenway.  Coordinate and work with crews and contractors to ensure timely and proper completion of assigned tasks and projects.

Responsible for the maintenance and operations functions of the Rodman Campground as assigned by supervisor.  Communicates and coordinates activities with supervisor and co-workers.  Establishes and maintains good working relationships with Florida Park Service (FPS) stakeholders, partners and user groups to minimize conflicts regarding maintenance and operation activities.

Requisitions or purchases needed tools, equipment and materials for proper repair and maintenance of greenway facilities and equipment.  Coordinates and inspects work performed by contract personnel to ensure satisfactory performance to pre-established standards.  Inspects buildings and grounds for safety and cleanliness.  Trash pick up and bag removal.

Operates or works with heavy and small equipment as part of the maintenance and operations activities. Works to ensure safe operation and utilization of equipment and tools. Operates state vehicles safely and is responsible for maintenance. Makes routine inspections to ensure proper standards are met. Interact with the public in a friendly and courteous manner. 

Performs related work as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: the procedures and methods used in the repair and maintenance of wooden structures, plumbing and other equipment. 

Skill in:  using hand, power and bench tools; repairing and maintaining wooden structures, including furniture fixtures; performing brick and cement work; performing electrical repairs; painting surfaces; small equipment use and repair 

Ability to: maintain the cleanliness of buildings and grounds; determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Driver’s License
• Successfully complete background/fingerprint check

Position of Special trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP-422 (Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility). Any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a Level 2 State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S.  No applicant may begin employment until the background screening results are received, reviewed for any disqualifying offenses, and approved by the Agency.

The Cross Florida Greenway is unique in many ways. Occupying more than 70,000 acres of land formerly known as the Cross Florida Barge Canal, the Greenway is a 110-mile linear park that is more than a mile wide in places. It hosts more than 300 miles of trails of all types — paddling, hiking, mountain biking, equestrian and paved multi-use.

The Greenway is also a wildlife corridor and the first in Florida to have a “land bridge” across a major interstate that both trail users and wildlife utilize. Black bears use the Greenway as a major corridor, especially on the eastern end near the Ocala National Forest. The Greenway protects unspoiled segments of the Ocklawaha River, and it offers campgrounds, too. All this and more are part of the Cross Florida Greenway experience!
