Occupational Therapist (OT) - Inpatient Rehab

PRN DAYS

The Occupational Therapist evaluates, plans, and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of occupational therapy. Functions as an interdisciplinary team member providing patient assessment/re-assessment, direct patient care and individualized care planning/implementation.  Responsible for the administration, interpretation and evaluation of tests and measurements.  Plans and modifies treatment programs. Works with neonatal through geriatric patients with clinical competency, as applicable. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

General Functions: 

• Responds to physician orders for occupational therapy. 
• Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients. 
• Reviews patient charts and progress prior to treatment and modifies treatment plan accordingly. 
• Develops functional goals based on patient and/or family expectations. 
• Develops, improves, or restores skills in activities of daily living, work, or productive activities. 
• Seeks clarification of physician orders as needed. 
• Interprets physician orders and requests interpretation as necessary 
• Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients 
• Reviews patient charts and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment plan accordingly 
• Develops functional goals based on patient and/or family expectations 
• Instructs and involves patient, family, social worker, nursing staff and discharge planner in patient’s progress and discharge plans, participating in appropriate meetings. 
• Ensures all documentation is legible, appropriate, concise and timely. 
• Uses appropriate modalities and procedures correctly demonstrating knowledge of indications and contraindications 
• Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use 
• Organizes schedule to reflect patient priorities, needs of other staff, and the department needs and responsibilities
• Provides in-service to staff 
• Provides clinical education for OT students 
• Utilizes supportive personnel and supervises administration of treatment plans 
• Informs supervisor of incidents, accidents, equipment failure or unusual physician or patient 
• problems immediately, initiating appropriate action. 
• Maintains a working knowledge of routine clerical procedures 
• Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
• Maintains safe environment 
• Addresses patient population–specific needs 
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy 

PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: No previous work experience necessary.   

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years as a practicing OT in a healthcare setting to include: Hand Therapy, Ergonomics, as well as marketing and business familiarity. Spanish Proficiency 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: NEW GRADUATES:   Possession of current Texas State license prior to orientation.  ALL OTHERS: Possession of current Texas State license.

REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): Must have active American Heart Association (AHA) healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire.
