Job Description:

As a member of the health care team, the Cardiovascular Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs Myocardial Perfusion Imaging, Equilibrium Radionuclide Angiography (ERNA/MUGA), Cardiac Amyloid Imaging and Rest Imaging for cardiac Sarcoidosis using Planar and SPECT/CT imaging methods on adult and geriatric patients. Processes and analyzes study data. Labels Red Blood Cells (RBC’s) with radioactive isotopes using In-Vivo and In-Vitro techniques. Measures, calculates, administers, and documents radioactive doses for cardiac nuclear studies. Performs daily quality control testing on nuclear cameras and nuclear hot lab equipment for quality and safety. Performs daily radioactive contamination surveys using a Gieger-Muller and nuclear well counter. Complies with nuclear regulations and protocols governed by the State of Ohio Radioactive Materials Division (ODH)/Nuclear regulatory Commission (NRC), The Joint Commission (TJC), and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). Adheres to all Cardiac Nuclear Medicine policies, protocols, and procedures. Complies with radiation safety protocols in the safe handling of radioactive materials and keeping radiation exposure levels “As Low As Reasonably” Achievable” (ALARA) to patients, staff, and self. Advises and collaborates with Heart and Vascular Center personnel, physicians, cardiology fellows, nursing staff, transplant coordinators, ancillary hospital departments and satellite offices to perform safe, quality, diagnostic procedures and to provide superior patient care.

1. Adheres to all radiation safety issues related to Radiopharmaceuticals by wearing badges.
2. Adheres to NPSG 07.01.01 by effectively washing hands when going from one patient to the next.
• Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately.
• Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees.
• Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment.

1. Recognizes Frayed Cord:
Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner.
Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken.
Reduces adverse results or impact to patient care and the employee.
2. Recognize exposure to Blood:
Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment.
Safety concerns: The manager has been timely with staff training and education.
Wiping up spills.
3. Follows standardized approach for handoff communication
Follows policy and Standard of Care for communication to include the opportunity to ask and respond to questions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education/Experience/Licensing:
1. Associate degree or higher in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
2. Must hold an ODH Radiologic License in Nuclear Medicine to practice in the State of Ohio.
3. Must be Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine and/or Board Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
(NMTCB).
4. Must hold CPR (BLS) AHA Healthcare Provider certification.
5. Two years’ experience in Nuclear Medicine with emphasis in Nuclear Cardiology procedures.
6. Physical requirements:
a) visual acuity of 20/20 or corrected to 20/20 including color vision when applicable.
b) ability to hear (with or without aides)
c) ability to orally communicate
d) good manual dexterity
e) ability to push, pull, roll, and transfer/lift 50 pounds occasionally
f) ability to stand and walk frequently
g) ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel frequently; and
h) ability to perform CPR (if required for position).
