Why This Role Is Different

This isn't just a payroll processing job — it's a hands-on seat on the Finance team. You'll own core payroll operations and provide day-to-day HR support, while staying open to jumping in on whatever else the Finance and Accounting team needs. What You'll Do 

• Payroll processing — enter, maintain, and process payroll data including hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses, time worked, PTO, deductions, withholdings, and employee information updates
• Ensure accurate processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other withholdings
• Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements
• Issue or reissue checks and direct deposits to resolve payroll errors or process final pay
• Generate records and process federal and state payroll tax deposits and reports
• Support to HR — assist with onboarding and offboarding, maintain accurate employee records, support benefits administration, and serve as a friendly first point of contact for employee questions
• Excel & reporting — build and maintain advanced Excel models and reports (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and formula-driven reconciliations) to support payroll accuracy and Finance reporting
• Beyond payroll — enjoy helping out across the Finance and Accounting department, and be open to learning new duties and taking on additional projects as they come up.
• Preference to candidates who in addition to payroll have performed tasks related to AP invoice posting, expense report reimbursements, G/L entries, fixed assets etc.

What You Bring

• Solid knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, payroll taxes, and internal controls
• Comfort supporting HR tasks such as onboarding, recordkeeping, and employee questions
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills and sharp attention to detail
• Strong Excel skills required — comfort with pivot tables, lookup functions, and complex formulas is essential; experience building reports or dashboards in Excel is a big plus
• A high degree of professionalism and sound judgment handling confidential information
• Strong interpersonal skills — comfortable communicating with employees at all levels and building good working relationships across the team
• Reliable under pressure — proven ability to meet deadlines and stay organized while handling changing tasks and shifting priorities
• A genuine, can-do enthusiasm for pitching in wherever needed and learning new areas of Finance and Accounting

Work Arrangement & Benefits

• 100% work from home — this is a fully remote position
• Availability — must be available and working East Coast (Eastern Time) business hours

Education & Experience

• Associate's degree preferred; equivalent postsecondary education considered
• 3+ years working with a major payroll software platform (e.g., Paylocity, Paycor, or ADP), processing payroll for 100+ employees
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus, but not required
