National Energy Account Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a National Energy Account Manager based in United States.

This remote role is responsible for driving profitable growth across strategic national energy accounts and large retail customers. You will develop and execute account strategies while building relationships with key end users, specifiers, contractors, branches, vendors, and senior stakeholders. The position combines business development, consultative selling, national account management, and energy-efficiency solutions. You will identify new opportunities, secure national contracts, and develop proposals focused on total cost of ownership and energy savings. The role also requires strong knowledge of electrical distribution, lighting, solar, EV charging, and utility incentive programs. With up to 50% travel, this is a highly relationship-driven position suited to an experienced sales professional who can operate independently in a fast-paced environment.

Accountabilities:

• Drive sales growth and profitability across assigned national accounts while achieving established sales, margin, and budget objectives.
• Generate new business by proactively identifying prospective accounts, pursuing leads, following up on branch and other inquiries, and developing new customer relationships.
• Develop and maintain a proactive target list of national accounts and identify opportunities for multi-measure energy and cost-reduction programs.
• Lead sales efforts from opportunity development through proposal, negotiation, and close, securing national contracts and programs with target customers.
• Prepare, organize, and deliver executive-level presentations and customized proposals that clearly communicate the value of proposed solutions.
• Promote total cost of ownership reduction initiatives and identify energy-efficiency opportunities that can generate savings and improve customer outcomes.
• Conduct joint customer calls with branch teams to develop sales agreements, expand existing relationships, and maintain current contracts.
• Support account pricing decisions and work with vendors to negotiate special price agreements that provide competitive and profitable pricing.
• Maintain accurate national account information and ensure account data is documented according to established standards.
• Educate participating branches and end users on newly established contracts, programs, pricing structures, and solutions.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, field managers, sales teams, suppliers, and other internal and external partners to develop and win business within targeted national accounts.
• Maintain strategic customer relationships through regular personal visits, proactive communication, and ongoing account management.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Sales, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in strategic account management, national account management, or an equivalent sales leadership role.
• Demonstrated record of delivering profitable growth and strong customer service.
• Strong sales capabilities and sound business judgment, with the ability to assess customer needs, develop strategic plans, and identify opportunities for growth.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal, listening, and customer service skills, with the ability to influence across multiple functions and build effective internal and external relationships.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, openness to feedback, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
• Working knowledge of electrical distribution products, including switchgear, pipe, wire, fittings, strut, boxes, and NEMA ratings.
• Familiarity with lighting contactors, breakers, disconnect switches, legacy lighting technologies, and the ability to identify different lamp and lighting types.
• Ability to perform lighting audits and recommend solutions for energy upgrades, along with general knowledge of solar, balance-of-system components, and EV charging.
• Ability to identify additional energy-saving opportunities involving motors, drives, transformers, ceiling insulation, and related solutions.
• Knowledge of utility incentive programs across the country and the ability to help customers identify savings opportunities and support pre- and post-application processes with utilities.
• Valid driver’s license required, with the ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight stays.
• Ability to use a computer and telephone, regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear, occasionally reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to meet the visual, mobility, and travel requirements of the role and, when necessary, work more than 40 hours per week.
