Middleware Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Middleware Engineer to support and modernize enterprise integration platforms within a large financial services organization. This individual will play a key role in ensuring reliable communication across critical business applications while helping drive automation, platform modernization, and operational excellence.

This position offers the opportunity to work on enterprise-scale middleware technologies, partner with development and architecture teams, and influence the future state of integration services across the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with middleware technologies, containerization, messaging platforms, automation, and CI/CD practices.

What You'll Be Working On

• Supporting and enhancing enterprise middleware platforms that enable communication between critical business applications.
• Driving modernization initiatives focused on automation, reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Designing and configuring middleware solutions to support evolving business and technology needs.
• Automating deployment and configuration processes using CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation tools.
• Improving application integration capabilities through standardized and scalable middleware practices.
• Collaborating with developers, architects, and offshore support teams to deliver stable and efficient integration solutions.
• Identifying opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen platform resiliency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, deploy, and maintain middleware and integration platforms.
• Partner with development and architecture teams to define integration strategies and technical approaches.
• Analyze, test, document, and optimize existing middleware environments.
• Automate middleware implementation and configuration using CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Monitor system performance, usage, and health across middleware environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues impacting application performance and functionality.
• Develop and execute strategies for platform upgrades, migrations, and consolidations.
• Coordinate operational support activities and incident management with offshore teams.
• Perform ongoing administration, maintenance, installation, and operational reviews of middleware environments.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to support critical enterprise systems.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience supporting enterprise middleware environments.
• Hands-on experience with MuleSoft integration platforms.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized application environments.
• Experience with Confluent Kafka, Kafka brokers, and Kafka Connectors.
• Strong knowledge of Apache Tomcat administration and support.
• Experience with Ansible or other automation/configuration management tools.
• Knowledge of OIDC/OAuth authentication and authorization frameworks.
• Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and operational support skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with developers, architects, infrastructure teams, and offshore resources.

• Background supporting highly available, mission-critical distributed systems.
• Experience implementing process automation and operational improvements.
• Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Sioux Falls, SD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $135000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
