Position Description

Join our team as an intern and gain real-world experience working alongside architects, engineers, and industry professionals. As a Medium Voltage Distribution Intern, you will gain experience in the design of electrical power substations and/or underground and overhead distribution lines. You will work with a Medium Voltage Distribution Engineer to learn about and create one-line diagrams, relaying diagrams, control schematics, structural plans and elevations, grounding plans, site plans, construction specifications and contract documents. 
Additionally, you will learn to read and interpret the National Electrical Safety Code sections for Grounding, Electrical Supply Stations and Overhead and Underground Distribution Lines in the production of engineering calculations, design drawings, and specifications.  This position offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions while gaining technical expertise in the field.

What does this role involve day to day? You will build a base foundation of electrical engineering principles and code requirements, gaining hands-on experience with Cushing Terrell's collaborative design process across low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems.

What will I create? You will help develop electrical design documentation and drawings, building skills in Revit and AutoCAD, while learning engineering coordination across disciplines.

What does success look like in this internship? You will learn what a design package looks like including studies, drawings, equipment and construction specifications. You will work with experience professional engineers learning electrical systems design fundamentals, emerging technologies, and electrical codes, participate in site visits with project leads, and leave with a clear picture of what it means to work in the medium voltage engineering industry.  

Position Wage Range*

The expected wage range for this position is $21.00 to $26.00 per hour.

Required Qualifications**

• Completion of 3+ years of an electrical engineering or related undergraduate program
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD
• Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Bluebeam
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and adapt
• Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with team members across disciplines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications**

• Exposure to low-voltage or medium-voltage power distribution
• Familiarity with electrical codes and safety standards
• Interest in medium voltage power distribution

Position Responsibilities***

• Support the design of electrical systems, including low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution
• Build AutoCAD skills through hands-on electrical design work
• Learn and apply building codes and safety standards to project design
• Complete individually tailored tasks for design of medium voltage electrical systems and emerging technologies
• Coordinate with engineering teams across disciplines on active projects
• Attend site visits with project leads when opportunities allow
• Gain exposure to the variety of project types and teams across the firm

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate's years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
