POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Oncologist/Hematologist is a board-certified physician specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of cancer, delivering care primarily through telehealth. At the Cancer Center of South Florida (CCSF), the Medical Oncologist/Hematologist plays a vital role within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, using video, audio, and asynchronous messaging to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to patients and their families in partnership with local clinicians. This position requires strong clinical acumen, excellent interpersonal and virtual communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and leadership within the field of oncology. In addition to fulfilling essential clinical responsibilities, CCSF physicians are expected to embody the shared values and professional standards that guide our organizational culture and partnership pathway.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Telehealth Care Delivery & Program Development

• Conduct clinical assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with local clinicians.
• Manage pre-treatment workups, treatment planning, and surveillance.
• Deliver care via telehealth using video, audio, and asynchronous messaging.
• Educate patients about treatment options and clinical trials.
• Maintain thorough documentation of encounters.
• Provide programmatic and administrative support toward the development of a Solid Tumor Cellular Therapy Program.

Patient Care Excellence & Satisfaction

• Diagnose and treat a wide range of cancer conditions using evidence-based standards of care.
• Create and implement personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's medical and emotional needs.
• Provide clear, compassionate communication and guidance to patients and their families.
• Maintain high patient satisfaction through courtesy, respect, and service excellence.
• Engage in ongoing communication with patients to promote trust and shared decision-making.

Clinical Quality & Efficiency

• Conduct thorough patient evaluations, order appropriate diagnostic tests, and interpret results accurately.
• Deliver timely and complete documentation of patient visits, treatment plans, and follow-ups.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in medical oncology and apply best practices.
• Demonstrate personal reliability and efficiency in managing patient care responsibilities.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Collegiality

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and administrative staff to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care.
• Participate in tumor boards, case reviews, and care planning discussions.
• Maintain respectful, supportive relationships with colleagues and contribute to a positive work culture.
• Share professional insights in a constructive and collegial manner; resolve conflicts respectfully.

Community Involvement & Professional Representation

• Represent CCSF in the community through patient and physician outreach.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with local healthcare providers, business leaders, and civic organizations.
• Participate in CCSF initiatives that strengthen visibility and trust in the community.

Payor Relations & Value-Based Care

• Deliver care that is aligned with CCSF’s quality standards and value-based outcomes.
• Maintain positive, professional relationships with payors and contribute to favorable performance data.
• Avoid disputes or negative feedback by ensuring accurate documentation and strong care coordination.

Continuous Learning, Research & Leadership

• Attend scientific meetings, professional conferences, and continuing medical education activities.
• Participate in clinical research, quality improvement projects, and protocol development.
• Publish or present findings, where appropriate, and contribute to advancing the field of oncology.
• Take on leadership roles in professional, civic, or charitable organizations when possible.
• Assume medically integrated dispensing supervision responsibilities in the absence of the physician in charge.
• Research and administrative responsibilities and the associated time commitments are specified and outlined in the employment agreement.

• Actively contributes to improving internal workflows, patient experience, and staff collaboration.
• Engage in committee work, quality reviews, or special projects that enhance CCSF’s operations.

• Comply with all federal and state healthcare laws, including HIPAA, FCA, AKS, and the Stark Law.
• Follow CCSF’s internal policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
• Maintain a valid, unrestricted medical license and promote a culture of compliance and accountability.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
• Completion of residency in internal medicine or a related field.
• Fellowship training in hematology or oncology.
• Board certification in hematology or oncology.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION:

• Must possess and maintain an active, unrestricted Florida Medical License issued by the Florida Board of Medicine.
• Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Medical Oncology or Hematology required
• Valid DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) registration for prescribing controlled substances.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of oncology, hematology, diagnostics and evidence-based protocols
• Strong critical thinking and decision-making in complex medical situations.
• Proficient telehealth skills and use of EHRs.
• Ability to clearly communicate with patients, families, and care teams.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment meanwhile promoting collegiality and mutual respect.
• Ability to manage time and have a high attention to detail.
• Ability to demonstrate leadership, integrity, and compliance with medical, ethical and legal standards.
• Knowledge of using electronic medical record systems (EMR).
