Medical Oncologist

JOB OVERVIEW

• Job Title: Physician – Medical Oncology
• Job Type: Locum Tenens
• Location: Richmond, Indiana
• Service Setting: Inpatient
• Coverage Type: Clinical + Call
• Coverage Period: Dec 1, 2026 – Ongoing
• Clinical Shift Schedule: Tue– Fri, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hr unpaid lunch); Mondays off
• 4 weeks/month or FT only
• Call Schedule:  Assist & Rotating Call 
• Night call on some days - schedule TBD
• Weekend call; Fri 5pm - Mon 7am on rotation
• Call Type: Telephone call (provider comes to the hospital only if requested by the APP)
• Call Response Time: Telephone availability required

COVERAGE DETAILS

• Dec 1, 2026 - Dec 2027
• Winchester clinic coverage every Wednesday
• Hagerstown clinic coverage every other Thursday (1st and 3rd Thursdays each month)
• Provider will travel between multiple practice locations
• Telemedicine is not available

• Patient Demographics: Adults
• Patient Volume: Clinic - 18-20 patients
• Phone Consults: Yes (Call coverage)
• Rounding: Included
• Case Mix: 35% Hem, 65 Onco (APPs see most Hematology patients; Oncologists see the cancer patients) 

FACILITY INFORMATION

• No. of Beds: 220+
• Trauma Level: III 
• EMR: Epic
• Specialty Backup: Full multispecialty support including Cardiology, General Surgery, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Rehabilitation, Hospice, Pediatrics, and additional medical specialties
• Support Staff: Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Nursing Staff, and Ancillary Support
• Reason for Coverage: Staff Leaving

PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE

• Hospital Privileges Required: Yes
• Credentialing Timeline: 60–90 days

• Medical Oncology patient management
• Order entry within the Vemsta platform
• Case logs required for credentialing

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Licenses: Active IN License or IMLC
• Board: BC in Hematology & Oncology
• At least 2 years or experience
• DEA: Active DEA 
• BLS (AHA)
• Certifications: BLS required, ACLS required only if requesting conscious sedation privileges

Experience:

• Oncology experience
• Case logs required

Other Qualifications:

• Flu vaccination required (or approved medical/religious exemption)
• COVID-19 vaccination required (or approved medical/religious exemption)
• Must enter work hours in the Vemsta platform
• Must complete order entry as the locum provider

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide inpatient oncology care
• Evaluate and manage oncology patients during scheduled clinical hours
• Participate in night and weekend telephone call rotation
• Collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers and provide physician support as needed
• Travel to outreach clinic locations in Winchester and Hagerstown for scheduled coverage
• Provider must be able to provide 4 weeks coverage in a month
