Job Summary and Responsibilities

Acentra Health is looking for a Fractional (part time) Medical Director to join our growing team.

Job Summary:

The Fractional (part time) Medical Director provides clinical leadership and physician oversight for the California transition-support services program, for UIS (Unsatisfactory Immigration Status). The role establishes clinical standards, supports safe assessment and escalation, advises on continuity of care and post-discharge needs, and provides clinical guidance to nurses, social workers, care coordinators, and other program staff. The Medical Director works with the Program Director and designated partners to ensure that transition activities protect member safety, address clinically significant barriers, and remain within the approved scope of services for the Medi-Cal program.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate, redirect, and respond to inquiries from physicians, providers, and customers.
• Consult with general and specialty practitioners as needed.
• Represent and promote Acentra Health in professional settings.
• Foster external physician and provider relationships.
• Remain current on applicable regulations and legislation.
• Review medical information trends and approaches.
• Provide medical expertise in developing clinical goals and policies.
• Provide oversight of physician consultants and advisors.
• Conduct and document peer-to-peer consultations.
• Work with medical, nursing, and administrative staff on matters requiring shared attention.
• Add these California-specific responsibilities:
• Provide clinical oversight for UIS transition-support services.
• Advise on clinical escalation, member safety, treatment continuity, and post-discharge support.
• Provide consultation to nurses, social workers, care coordinators, and other program staff.
• Support the development of clinical protocols, escalation pathways, assessments, intervention plans, and training materials.
• Review clinically complex cases and advise on appropriate referrals, interventions, and follow-up.
• Support coordination with DHCS, Gainwell, providers, hospitals, and community partners on clinical matters.
• Monitor clinical trends, unresolved needs, failed handoffs, and potential transition-related deterioration.
• Advise on clinical quality improvement and future expansion of care-management services.
• Support business development, strategic planning, and expansion of related clinical services.
• Read, understand, and adhere to all corporate policies including policies related to HIPAA and its Privacy and Security Rules.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of 8+ years of clinical practice.
• A minimum of 5+ years of experience as a physician executive with significant accomplishments in developing managed care strategies, integrating delivery systems, improving quality and case management programs, and coaching medical staff on healthcare business and practice issues.
• MD or D.O. with current non-restricted license to practice medicine by the Medical Board of CA.
• Board certification in a clinical specialty.
• Flexible to travel within state of CA as needed.
• Must reside in the state of CA.

• Knowledge of Medi-Cal policies, practices, and processes. 
• Demonstrated expertise in quality and case management is a prerequisite.

• Possesses the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of personalities, exhibiting approachability, respect, and consensus-building skills.
• A systems thinker with robust organizational abilities, capable of seamlessly integrating various components to ensure on-time and budget-compliant delivery.
• Adaptable, with a strong collaborative management style, characterized by creative thinking, high energy, enthusiasm, and a commitment to promoting teamwork.
• Demonstrates the ability to adapt to frequently changing work parameters.

Experience in Lieu of Degree

For non-clinical roles, or when not required by the contract specifically, the Company acknowledges that practical, hands-on experience can provide skills and competencies equivalent to formal education. As such, in cases where a Bachelor's degree may be required, the Company will accept a minimum of six (6) years of directly relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree. In instances where the candidate has an Associate's degree, the Company will accept a minimum of three (3) years of directly relevant professional experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is listed below. 

“Based on our compensation philosophy, an applicant’s position placement in the pay range will depend on various considerations, such as years of applicable experience and skill level.”

Pay Range

USD $232,480.00 - USD $290,600.00 /Yr.
