Medical Assistant

Overview

The Medical Assistant is accountable for the provision of care as delegated according to the policies, procedures and standards of Conway Regional Health System. The Medical Assistant will demonstrate a commitment to teamwork through effective collaboration efforts.

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION:

This position is a designated as “Safety Sensitive Position” under Act 593 of the State of Arkansas. An employee who is under the influence of Marijuana constitutes a threat to patients/customers which Conway Regional is responsible for in providing and supporting the delivery health care related services. 

The PRN Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and clinical staff in an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) clinic. This position plays an important role in creating an efficient, welcoming, and patient-centered experience by assisting with patient flow, clinical documentation, insurance-related processes, scheduling, and daily clinic operations.

The PRN Medical Assistant must be adaptable, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Because this is a PRN position, flexibility is essential. The Medical Assistant may be asked to provide coverage and float to other Conway Regional clinics as needed.

Responsibilities

Clinical Support

• Prepare examination rooms and ensure rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for patients.
• Room patients promptly and obtain and document vital signs, medication lists, allergies, and other pertinent information.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures as directed by the provider.
• Assist providers with clinical procedures and patient care within the scope of training and practice.
• Serve as a medical scribe for the provider, accurately documenting patient encounters and clinical information in the electronic medical record.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
• Clean and disinfect examination rooms and equipment according to established standards.
• Assist with maintaining appropriate inventory and supplies.

Patient Access & Administrative Support

• Assist with patient check-in and check-out processes.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and assist with resolving insurance-related issues.
• Obtain and process prior authorizations as needed.
• Verify patient benefits and communicate relevant information to the appropriate staff.
• Schedule, reschedule, and coordinate patient appointments and follow-up visits.
• Answer incoming telephone calls professionally and assist patients with questions or route calls appropriately.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Assist with referrals, records, forms, and other administrative tasks as needed.
• Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.

Team & Operational Responsibilities

• Demonstrate flexibility by assisting with duties outside of the primary clinic as needed.
• Float to other Conway Regional clinic locations when coverage is needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in an ENT clinic but may float to other Conway Regional clinic locations based on staffing and operational needs. The role requires frequent interaction with patients and healthcare team members and may involve periods of standing, walking, sitting, and assisting with patient care.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Previous medical office, clinical, or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred and/or required in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Experience with electronic medical records preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorizations, and benefit verification is preferred.
  • Strong computer, communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to float to other Conway Regional clinics as operational needs require.
