Job Details: Job Location: Main Location - LA GRANGE, IL, Salary Range: $17.00 - $18.00Hourly, Department:  Recreation 

Title: Manager on Duty (MOD) 

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (FLSA)

Wage: $17.00 - $18.00, DOQ

Schedule: Primarily Evenings and Weekends

 
Job Summary: Under the general direction and supervision of the Facilities and Rental Supervisor, the MOD is responsible for supervising all patrons using the Recreation Center for programs, open gym, playground rentals, etc., occurring during their shift; this includes supervising Recreation Center staff, greeting & assisting renters/patrons, checking in patrons at the desk and taking registrations as needed, assuring proper setups for programs & rentals, resolving problems, and keeping all facility programs & rentals on track. The Manager on Duty position is a non-exempt position. Employees serving in the Manager on Duty position are employed “at-will” meaning that they can terminate their employment at any time and for any reason and likewise, the Park District can terminate their employment at any time and for any reason.  

Required Knowledge or Traits:  
1. Have a basic knowledge of Park District policies concerning customer service, facilities, programs, rentals, and behavioral policies.  
2. Always maintain a sense of loyalty to the Park District, including promoting only park district activities, events, programs, and facility rentals.  
3. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations.  
4. Ability to maintain self-control and composure in demanding situations and remain professional.  
5. Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions.  
6. Ability to work harmoniously with all employees in all departments within the park district.  
7. Demonstrate a positive and cheerful attitude.  
8. Ability to understand the needs and requests of facility renters, program contractors, staff, and patrons  
9. Ability to work with a good attitude toward co-workers and patrons.  
10. Ability to speak clearly and in a friendly manner to all renters, guests, and patrons.  
11. Ability to accept the responsibility to be punctual and practice good attendance.  
12. Ability to accept constructive criticism or supervision.  
13. Ability to multitask.  
14. Ability to problem solve and handle complaints calmly, professionally, and promptly.  
15. Willingness to accept responsibility for all issues or problems occurring during their shift with the intent to resolve them.  
16. Ability and willingness to become First Aid/CPR trained within first 6 months of employment 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:  
1. Greet patrons & renters in a friendly and welcoming manner and direct to where they need to go when needed. Introduce yourself and speak with them about their needs. Assist them with anything they might need help with.  
2. Be familiar and aware of the day/night’s schedule for the Recreation Center.  
3. Make sure event signage is in place and rooms are set up according to maintenance specific needs. The front desk will make up the signs on the boards.  
4. Bring wristbands and surveys to renters if they have not been picked up at the front desk at sign in. Instruct the renter to put wristbands on all the children.  
5. Lock and unlock rooms for programs & renters (doors must be locked in between programs & parties).  
7. Act as the primary contact for building when no full-time staff if present  
8. Check on renters intermittently, seeing if they have any needs. Each renter should be checked every half hour.   
9. Resolve any problems associated with programs/rentals/events taking place inside facility (including fitness center)  
10. Assist the front desk with rentals by showing rooms to prospective renters without disturbing ongoing parties.  
11. Respond to staff requests, staying in good contact with them.  
12. Track the time of all parties occurring during shift, making sure all renters are aware of their approaching end time. Give renters adequate reminders regarding their rental end time.  
13. Providing end-of-shift reports, as necessary, to appropriate full-time staff 
14. Be a liaison between the Facility and Rental Supervisor and renters.  
15. Communicate with Facility and Rental Supervisor regarding rentals, setups, and special requests.  
16. Carry a radio and be accessible to the front desk, maintenance, and renters.  
17. Assist with equipment malfunctions.  
18. Work with the maintenance department to set up and tear down rooms after a rental, program, or event. and/or cleaning rooms.  
19. Supervise patrons using gym, track, and playground, enforcing all PDLG policies.  
20. Check for wristbands in the playground and for open gym periodically during your shift.  
21. Make sure all patrons at the Recreation Center are following PDLG policies.  
22. Be aware of building and District emergency procedures along with ability to correctly fill out appropriate forms 
 
PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS  
The MOD may be subjected to stressful situations, including but not limited to:  
a. The responsibility of effective and efficient delivery of services to multiple patrons during their shift.  
b. The need to resolve situations and problems that sometimes may be intense in nature.  
c. Multi-tasking and assistance needed by renters, patrons, contractors, and staff.  
d. Confrontation with patrons.  
 
PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS  
MOD will be exposed to many activities that may require prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, kneeling, squatting, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting to 50 pounds without assistance.  
 
COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS  
1. Must be able to work independently  
2. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, follow directions, and read and speak English  
3. Must possess time management and organizational skills to effectively perform all job responsibilities.  
4. Must have good problem-solving skills and be able to act rationally and calmly in emergencies.  
5. Must be able to represent the Park District of La Grange in a courteous and professional manner  
6. Must be able to make judgments with respect to confidentiality of information and problem solving  
7. Must Exhibit good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of the position.  
8. Must exercise sound managerial and supervisory decisions.

Qualifications: Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in recreation, hospitality, business, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in recreation, hospitality, customer service, or a related field required.
Previous supervisory, managerial, or lead staff experience is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, make independent decisions, and effectively respond to customer service, facility, and operational issues.
Ability to supervise staff and oversee facility operations in the absence of full-time management.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
CPR/AED and First Aid certification required within six months of hire.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
