Manager Infection Prevention: Hoag Orthopedic Institute Quality Management

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Manager of Infection Prevention develops and implements infection control policies, procedures, and protocols designed to reduce or eliminate outbreaks across the Organization. Assesses compliance with established standards and identifies areas for improvement.  Provides training to staff on infection control principles and best practices. Conducts thorough investigations to determine the source and cause of outbreaks and implements appropriate control measures. The Manager Infection Prevention is the certified specialist trained in epidemiology. Collaborates with Infection Prevention Leadership to develop, oversee, and integrate comprehensive Infection Prevention Programs. Functions as a resource consultant and educator for patients, physicians, staff and community. 

• Directly coordinates and monitors activities to support the ongoing framework for implementation of the infection prevention programs. 
• Collaborates with the Infection Prevention Leadership and the Medical Director to develop and implement policies and procedures ensuring compliance with established standards. Continuously identify areas for improvement. 
• Organizes infection prevention environmental rounds in accordance with evidence-based practice and regulatory standards. 

• Promotes, develops, and ensures patient, physician, and staff compliance with infection prevention and control through education, audits and reporting through the appropriate channels and committees. Provides training on infection control/prevention as needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology or related Health Care field.

  • Minimum four years of experience as an infection preventionist in an acute care facility.

  • Knowledge of infection prevention operations and regulatory requirements governing patient safety, accreditation standards and national patient safety the initiatives. 

  • Extensive knowledge of microbiology, laboratory, procedures, aseptic technique and epidemiological techniques

  • Knowledge of Performance Improvement principles, tools and techniques. 

  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office suite)

  • Ability to travel between organization locations.

  • Experience managing a team.

• Preferred: Master of Science degree preferred. 

Licenses Required: 

• HOI: Current California Registered Nurse license or other healthcare discipline (e.g. clinical laboratory science) if applicable

Licenses Preferred: 

• Healthcare professional currently licensed in the State of California

Certifications Required: 

• Certification in Infection Control (CIC), a certified specialist trained in epidemiology

Certifications Preferred: 

• N/A
