Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Manager, EPC Health and Safety represents Pattern as the owner across multiple EPC projects and all phases of execution, providing EHS oversight, guidance, and support to help ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project delivery.

This role applies expertise in regulatory compliance, high-energy risk management, contractor EHS management systems, incident investigation, and third-party safety representative coordination to foster a collaborative, proactive safety culture across Pattern’s construction portfolio. The position is remote and requires approximately 50% travel to project sites and business meetings based on project needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The key responsibilities will include as a minimum the following:

• Provide project-specific EHS support across EPC projects, including wind, HVDC, transmission line, solar, and BESS scopes from preconstruction through operational readiness.
• Coordinate, direct, and support Pattern-employed third-party EHS representatives, including setting expectations, reviewing performance, and ensuring accurate and timely communication of project safety information.
• Oversee AIC case management, InEight administration, Teams administration, incident reporting, case tracking, corrective action documentation, and closure of EHS events.
• Conduct project site visits, participate in department and project meetings, and establish meeting cadences with project stakeholders based on project needs and risk profile.
• Review Pattern and general contractor safety requirements, including applicable P-1 and P-2 documents, site-specific safety plans, and contractor safety exhibits, and verify implementation throughout project execution.
• Engage general contractors, OEM suppliers, and subcontractors to support timely reporting, event closeout, preplanning for high-risk scopes, and adherence to contract requirements without directing contractor means and methods.
• Support hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and continuous improvement across EPC projects.
• Collaborate with project leadership and cross-functional teams to vet prospective contractors, evaluate qualification status, and support proactive readiness planning for upcoming work scopes.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION REQUIRED

Educational Experience

A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Safety, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, certifications, and relevant large-scale construction safety experience may be considered.

Required Work Experience

The following criteria will be used as a basis for Pattern to select a qualified applicant:

• Ten or more years of progressive EHS experience supporting large-scale utility infrastructure, major capital construction, or EPC projects.
• Experience representing an owner or client on major construction or infrastructure projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of EPC project delivery, construction management, contractor oversight, and owner governance expectations.
• Strong understanding of OSHA standards and applicable federal, state, and local EHS requirements.
• Demonstrated success overseeing general contractors and multiple subcontractors while maintaining appropriate owner/client oversight boundaries.
• Experience reviewing owner/client safety exhibits, contractor site-specific safety plans, and verifying implementation throughout project execution.
• Strong background in incident investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action processes, and continuous improvement.
• Experience managing multiple projects or regions simultaneously.

Additional Requirements

Must possess strengths in the following:

• Proven ability to influence project leadership and resolve EHS issues through collaboration, diplomacy, and clear communication.
• Strong knowledge of contractor EHS management systems, hazard identification, risk assessment, and prevention through design principles.
• Ability to engage in preplanning activities for high-risk work and hold contractors accountable to project-specific requirements.
• Familiarity with industrial construction, commissioning/start-up, and operational readiness.
• Experience in renewable energy, utility construction, OEM supplier, general contractor, wind, HVDC, transmission, BESS, or solar project environments is preferred.
• Construction safety, utility safety, electrical, crane, or heavy equipment certifications and training are preferred but not required.
• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% based on project needs.

Technical Skills

Computer skills – working knowledge of Windows-based business software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, AIC, InEight, and other project recordkeeping or tracking applications.

EHS technical knowledge – detailed knowledge of OSHA standards, construction safety practices, contractor safety oversight, incident reporting and investigation, corrective action management, high-energy risk controls, and project-specific safety requirements for large-scale utility and renewable energy construction projects.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $103,000 - $138,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
