This leadership role is responsible for overseeing and advancing enterprise-wide medical coding operations within a large, complex healthcare environment. You will play a critical part in ensuring coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and revenue integrity across multiple hospitals and clinics. The position requires close collaboration with executive leadership, revenue cycle teams, compliance, IT, and operational stakeholders to optimize coding performance and financial outcomes. You will lead multi-site coding teams, driving consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement in processes and workflows. A key focus of the role is leveraging data, technology, and best practices to strengthen coding quality and maximize reimbursement while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards. This is a high-impact role combining strategic leadership with hands-on operational oversight in a mission-driven healthcare organization.

Accountabilities:

• Lead and manage enterprise coding operations across multiple sites, ensuring consistent performance, compliance, and alignment with organizational financial objectives.
• Oversee coding supervisors and teams, including hiring, training, performance management, and professional development.
• Develop and implement policies, workflows, and procedures to ensure coding quality, productivity, and regulatory compliance.
• Monitor key performance indicators, analyze operational data, and drive improvements in coding accuracy, charge capture, and revenue optimization.
• Partner with revenue cycle, finance, compliance, IT, and physician leadership to support enterprise-wide coding strategy and initiatives.
• Identify operational inefficiencies and lead process improvement, automation, and optimization initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with government and payer coding regulations while supporting audit readiness and risk mitigation.
• Support system implementations, upgrades, and technology enhancements impacting coding and revenue cycle processes.
• Prepare and present performance reports, financial insights, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
• Foster strong relationships across clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders to promote alignment and accountability.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent extensive experience).
• 5–7+ years of experience in healthcare operations, revenue cycle, medical coding, billing, or healthcare auditing.
• Strong knowledge of coding standards, revenue cycle processes, and healthcare reimbursement systems.
• Coding certification (AHIMA or AAPC) strongly preferred.
• Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field is a plus.
• Proven leadership experience managing multi-site teams and complex operational environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and drive actionable insights.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.
• Experience in process improvement, operational optimization, and healthcare financial performance management.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, regulated healthcare environment.
