Manager, Construction Remediation Project Management

Brown and Caldwell is seeking a Senior Project Manager focused on Private Sector and Municipal markets with a proven track record developing and delivering Environmental Construction Services (ECS) projects through collaborative at-risk delivery models, including design-build (DB), engineering-procurement-construction (EPC), construction management at risk (CMAR), and progressive forms thereof. Serving as Deputy to the Collaborative Delivery Enterprise (CDE) ECS Director, this leader will assemble and manage multidisciplinary teams across environmental science, engineering, compliance and permitting, cost estimating, procurement, pre-construction, construction, operations and maintenance (O&M), and external subcontractor and supplier partners to deliver integrated ECS solutions within our growing Construction Services (CS) practice. Targeted services include environmental remediation, mitigation, restoration, and closure projects, as well as smaller industrial and municipal water/wastewater projects, typically under $5M, involving new construction, modifications/upgrades, or pilot testing.

Success in this role requires strong networking, communication, and collaboration across BC business units, shared services, design services, and technical practices. The Senior Project Manager will provide development and delivery leadership for key private and municipal clients, including private-sector production markets such as distribution, food and beverage, mining, and manufacturing, as well as energy markets such as oil/gas, chemicals, power, and technology. The successful candidate will sustain and grow significant revenue by maintaining, leveraging, and expanding strong internal relationships along with key clients, subcontractors, and suppliers at national and local levels while aligning stakeholders to deliver CDE ECS assignments that meet company standards for safety, quality, risk management, and profitability and exceed client expectations.

**While this role may be remote with travel, candidates located near BC’s Ramsey New Jersey, New York City, or Philadelphia offices is preferred.  Other locations of interest include Houston, Denver, Tampa/Orlando, Atlanta, Los Angeles/Irvine, Walnut Creek.      

This role requires travel for multiple consecutive days and sometimes on weekends, up to 20% annually.  This may include job-site duty for up to two weeks per trip home to support on-site construction and safety management.  

Responsibilities 

Responsibilities include the following for delivering day-to-day operations for mid-sized to large-scale projects:

• Execution of BC’s project delivery requirements: 
  • Scope: Collaborate and prepare detailed scopes of work to set clear expectations and prevent project overruns.  Develop clear assumptions and limitations and set realistic expectations and a solid pathway to delivering quality work successfully. 
  • Schedule: Collaborate on the development and maintenance of project schedules to provide for timely resource allocation and delivery.  Recommend and assist implementation of schedule delay mitigation measures as needed.    
  • Budget: Develop and collaborate on work breakdown structures and project budgets aligned with scope and schedule. to set a project up for financial success. Manage budget on project to meet planned project performance metrics. 
  • Quality Management: Create, implement and monitor quality management plans and processes to enhance client trust, minimize deficiencies, incorporate our standards and quality review processes and collaborate with team members to contribute to quality.  
  • Change Management: Identify and manage internal and external changes to mitigate risks.   Identify and recommend change management, in collaboration with project team, prepare the scope and budget for the change order, and gain client endorsement and approval for the change to minimize financial and execution risk to BC.   
  • Risk Management: Ability to identify risks, develop risk mitigation strategies and perform ongoing risk monitoring and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle. Identify and escalate risks, collaborate with teams to prepare mitigation strategies for each risk, monetization of each risk, and update the risk profile on the project throughout the lifecycle of a project. 
  • Health & Safety: Lead by example and follow BC policy and client requirements for health and safety. Lead development and implementation of health and safety plans per the project specific requirements. 
  • Manage external resources: Including third parties/vendors to deliver successfully on their contracted scope, quality, budget and schedule. 
• Delivery of Project and Business Performance Metrics: Lead achievement of project goals related to scope, schedule, budget and quality.  Monitor profitability through routine earned value analysis and compliance, business revenue forecasting and timely invoicing/collections.   
• Client Service and Sales/Marketing Support and Engagement: Ability to build successful relationships with Clients, while collaborating with client service managers and project teams to assess client satisfaction.  Monitor and share clients’ critical success factors for project success and client satisfaction. 
• Lead, develop, and coach a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering a culture of engagement, growth, and accountability. 
• Oversee workload planning, performance management, and team operations to align resources with business objectives while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations. 
• Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs. 

Skills and Competencies

Experience 

• Typically, a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience managing mid-size to large projects with progressively increasing responsibility. Specifically: 
• Competency in development and monitoring of moderate project schedules 
• Competency in development and monitoring of moderate project budgets  
• Competency in Risk Management 
• Experience leading cross functional teams. 
• Proven experience in project planning, risk and change management, and contract management of mid-size projects. 
• Previous experience applying specialized knowledge in project management to deliver the solutions for clients. 

Education 

• A bachelor’s degree in project management, engineering, business administration or equivalent relevant experience is required. 
• Project management certification or ability to achieve in 6 months. 

Preferred Experience 

• Willing to travel for multiple consecutive days and sometimes on weekends, up to 20% annually. This may include jobsite duty for up to two weeks per trip home to support on-site construction and safety management
• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in environmental engineering (or equivalent engineering) with 15+ years of consulting, design, construction, and operations / maintenance / monitoring experience involving environmental remediation, mitigation, restoration, and closure projects and water/wastewater treatment projects.
• Master of Science (MS) degree in environmental engineering (or equivalent engineering) preferred.
• Experience working on environmental construction services projects, including remediation, mitigation, restoration, closure, pilot testing, modifications/upgrades, or smaller water/wastewater construction efforts.
• Remediation experience to include in-ground and above-ground treatment process solutions and related water resource and waste management experience.
• Experience delivering projects using collaborative at-risk delivery models such as design-build, EPC, CMAR, and progressive versions thereof.
• Ability to partner across business units, client service teams, technical practices, shared services, and external subcontractor/supplier partners to support pursuit, planning, and delivery efforts.
• Experience contributing to business development, proposal development, presentations, client engagement, and cross-selling of project delivery or construction services.
• Experience with procurement, cost estimating, pre-construction planning, subcontractor coordination, schedule development, and resource planning.
• Demonstrated ability to support team development, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and scalable project delivery practices such as templates, toolkits, SOPs, or other process improvements.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.   

Location A:  $144,000 - $196,000
Location B:  $158,000 - $216,000
Location C:  $172,000 - $236,000
