Manager, Coding Solutions

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, Coding Solutions based in the United States.

This role leads healthcare coding operations within a revenue cycle environment focused on quality, efficiency, and strong operational outcomes.
You will oversee coding workflows, staffing, workload prioritization, and performance while helping reduce backlogs and resolve system or process issues.
The position combines people leadership with hands-on expertise in medical coding, clinical documentation, and reimbursement.
You will collaborate with coding and CDI teams, physicians, and other departments to maintain accurate and effective coding practices.
A key focus will be monitoring coding quality through audits and using operational data to identify opportunities for improvement.
You will also contribute to the evolution of products and services while presenting performance insights to senior leadership.
This fully remote opportunity is suited to an experienced coding leader who can manage competing priorities while developing high-performing, quality-focused teams.

Accountabilities:

• Manage coding workflows to reduce backlogs, resolve system issues, and optimize revenue cycle processes.

• Communicate regularly with coding staff, CDI teams, physicians, and other departments to coordinate priorities and resolve operational challenges.

• Monitor satisfaction levels and identify opportunities to improve service quality and team performance.

• Identify, investigate, and participate in the timely resolution of operational problems and issues.

• Provide periodic status reports and performance updates to leadership.

• Schedule department staff according to workload volumes and appropriately prioritize assignments.

• Develop and present executive-level reporting packages on a quarterly basis.

• Manage direct reports, including performance evaluations, professional development, coaching, and corrective action when appropriate.

• Conduct regular coding audits to monitor quality, accuracy, and adherence to established standards.

• Collaborate with internal teams to improve existing products and services and support the development of new solutions.

• Assist team members with accurate application of diagnosis and procedure codes, including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS.

• Provide guidance and interpretation of coding guidelines to support accurate code assignment.

• Ensure team members understand the importance of clinical documentation and its impact on coding accuracy and reimbursement.

• Promote a team culture aligned with professional coding ethics, organizational values, and applicable standards of conduct.

• Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, privacy requirements, and security regulations.

• Ensure required training and education are completed by established deadlines and that team members apply the knowledge gained.

• Protect confidential information, including personal health information, and reinforce appropriate data-handling practices.

• Evaluate operational risks, participate in risk mitigation initiatives, and support the correction of identified deficiencies.

• Perform additional responsibilities and projects as assigned by leadership.

Requirements:

• Associate degree or equivalent relevant education.

• National coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA.

• CCS, CCS-P, or CDEO certification is preferred.

• Commitment to maintaining coding credentials through ongoing continuing education and CEUs.

• At least 3 years of medical coding experience in inpatient, outpatient, or professional services environments.

• At least 2 years of previous leadership experience in a healthcare setting.

• Strong knowledge of medical coding practices, guidelines, documentation requirements, and reimbursement implications.

• Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS coding systems.

• Ability to navigate a variety of electronic medical record environments and review handwritten charts.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with different stakeholder groups.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.

• Initiative, resourcefulness, strong attention to detail, and effective problem-solving skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities on an ongoing basis.

• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members possessing varied skill sets and levels of experience.

• Ability to work at a computer terminal for approximately 6–8 hours per day and operate effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions.

• Ability to occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 20 pounds, with reasonable accommodations available where applicable.
