Position: Maintenance Worker / Skilled

Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Maint Worker - Skilled position serves as a highly skilled technician performing mostly technical functions for the Plant Engineering Department including inspecting, servicing, and repairing advanced electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment. Takes on-call coverage as scheduled. Tech II position supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Responds to requests by pager, radio, telephone or other methods of communication. Performs emergency repairs using proper trouble-shooting techniques. Conducts periodic inspections/tests based on pre-determined priorities and conditions. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment as specified. Maintains logs of inspections, tests, servicing, and repairs as required. Completes work orders as required. Participates in and supports a process to improve performance of services.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required:

1. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
2. Valid Texas Drivers License

3. Basic general maintenance skills training and/or minimum four years related experience, including plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, steam plant, metal work, and welding.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

1. Ability to read, write, and converse in English.
2. Ability to understand maintenance problems.
3. Ability to perform lifting (minimum of 50 pounds,) bending, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing and pulling, work with hands above head, work above ground on scaffolds, ladders, etc., standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods.

4. Ability to tolerate high noise levels for prolonged periods.
5. Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures and humidity for prolonged periods.
6. Ability to understand and practice safety requirements in work involving exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological materials, dangerous equipment.
7. Ability to respond to pager, radio, telephone, and other auditory stimulation.
8. Ability to discriminate color.
9. Ability to perform basic math functions and measurements.
