Job Description
Hope Haven of East Texas is a Christian, faith-based non-profit providing a direct solution to the foster care crisis in East Texas. We demonstrate Christ’s love to children and teens in the foster care system by providing home, healing, and hope through a combination of residential and family care, life skills training, and professional mental and behavioral support because we believe that every child deserves to be safe and equipped for the future.
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
DUTIES: Maintains and performs general maintenance and repairs for Hope Haven's three properties and all vehicles. Performs necessary repairs to drywall, fixtures, appliances, furniture, equipment, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other building systems. Conducts routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential problems. Communicates maintenance needs to the Operations Manager and coordinates with outside vendors and contractors as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to pass an FBI fingerprint background check.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a valid Texas Driver's License and have a driving record within the guidelines of the organization's insurance provider.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage interruptions, and work effectively in stressful situations.
- Experience with drywall installation and repair, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general handyman work.
- Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and identify when specialized or licensed services are needed.
- Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
Compensation Status: Part Time Hourly, DOE
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Perform general maintenance and repairs for Hope Haven's three properties and all vehicles.
- Inspect properties regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential problems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on buildings, appliances, equipment, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Perform repairs involving drywall, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, fixtures, appliances, furniture, and general handyman work.
- Perform basic HVAC troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Assist with routine inspections and maintenance of homes, vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
- Maintain a log of maintenance requests, inspections, repairs, parts, and repair costs.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
- Communicate maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential problems to the Operations Manager.
- Coordinate with outside vendors, contractors, and inspectors as needed.
- Respond to urgent or emergency maintenance needs.
- Maintain clean, safe, and orderly work areas.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
NOTE: These requirements represent minimum levels to perform the job on a satisfactory basis. Candidates must have the ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to be certified in CPR & First Aid.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to exercise patience, good judgment, and confidentiality and to observe and make accurate assessments of situations using available information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to acknowledge and support the unique Statement of Faith mission of Hope Haven of East Texas and respond appropriately to the cultural differences among the agency's service population.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or criminal offense against a child.
Five years ago, the first teenage girl walked through the doors of Hope Haven, and we began to see the fruit of years of prayer and laboring toward a dream that God placed in the hearts of individuals who loved him and were called according to his purpose. Since that day, we have been privileged to see Him work in the lives of over a hundred girls in big ways and small. We have seen hope restored, hurts healed, and hearts made new through the saving grace of Christ. We have seen girls graduate from high school, earn driver’s licenses, learn priceless relationship skills, reunite with family members, and find forever homes with adoptive families. We may never know the full impact on the lives of staff, families, the community, and generations to come.
We have so many reasons to thank Him! Each of us can look back and remember ways in which we have seen God work: lives changed that seemed to be the furthest from change, doors of opportunity opened unexpectedly, and provision for all of our needs time after time. Our God is good and always faithful! So, join us in remembering what we have seen Him do, in praising and thanking Him, and in telling others the story.
That story has not ended, it has only just begun! God is still at work in this ministry and what He has called us to do during this season is part of a bigger picture that only He can see. We have seen Gateway of Hope continue to develop into a home that is highly respected in the child welfare community, we have seen Oak Haven open as a pioneer Supervised Independent Living program, and we have seen the dream of Danielle’s Home of Hope become a reality and provide much needed emergency care for girls in East Texas. We are on the verge of seeing Rekindle, a network of families who will provide therapeutic care for teenagers and children from any background, come to life.
