Summary
The maintenance mechanic performs a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical work across the campus. They are also responsible for operating equipment safely and responding to on-call emergencies after normal business hours.

Job Details: Level: Experienced, Job Location: Girard College - Philadelphia, PA, Position Type: Regular Full Time, Education Level: High School/GED, Salary Range: $23.69 - $23.69, Under direction of the Working Foreman or supervisor undertakes maintenance tasks involving plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical work. Candidates are expected to have knowledge and experience in plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical work with significant expertise in at least one of these areas. Carpentry experience preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Repairs, maintains a variety of services normally associated with the Building envelope
Properly prepares area or items for painting including surface preparation, masking areas as necessary, removing fixtures and covering furniture. Applies paint efficiently using appropriate tools and cleans equipment when finished. Requires preparing, setting up, and moving scaffolding and ladders.
Performs minor electrical repairs under supervision including replacing outlets and switches.
Constructs, repairs and maintains structures, equipment, partitions, etc. using wood and/or metal components.
Makes building repairs involving concrete, plaster, drywall, roofing materials, minor concrete, etc.
May perform related tasks such as replacing window glass, and repairs to drop ceilings.
Must be available for On-call emergencies after normal business hours.
Make repairs and perform maintenance to journeyman standards.
Provide service to campus customers in a pleasant, efficient and professional manner
Operate and maintain College equipment, tools and vehicles in a safe, efficient, appropriate manner.
Uses appropriate hand or power tools in the performance of mechanic duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required, advance learning preferred.
Minimum five years of appropriate training and/or experience in particular the use of appropriate tools and power tools.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to respond to emergencies after hours and on weekends
Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb ladders, bend, stoop and work in confined spaces.
Valid driver’s license required.
