Maintenance Assistant (Part-Time)

Join San Bruno's Parks Division, as a part-time, temporary Maintenance Assistant!

The San Bruno Community Services Department, Parks Division is committed to delivering responsive, professional, and efficient services that maintain and enhance the City’s infrastructure. With responsibility over City parks, street trees, street median landscaping, buildings and facilities, the Division is committed to providing responsive, high-quality service, and plays a vital role in keeping the city safe, clean, and functional.

Under immediate supervision, part-time maintenance assistants perform a range of unskilled and semiskilled tasks in maintenance and landscape work for city parks and facilities and operates equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City parks, street trees, street median landscaping, buildings and facilities.

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Assists in the maintenance of general grounds and facilities work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans and related work
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and fertilize shrubs, trees, flowerbeds and landscape areas
• Operates small gas-powered equipment including edger, blower, mower, string trimmer and hedge shears.
• Assists in digging holes and trenching for irrigation repairs and installation.
• Assists in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Required to work weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the best qualified candidates. Applicants should have the ability to read, write and carry out oral and written directions. Applicants should also have the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of proper use and care of common hand tools, skills performing manual work, and lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

Special Requirements:

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license with good driving record (DMV printout required).

• Experience working in a maintenance field with knowledge of tools.
• Conveying information and ideas clearly and concisely that helps the understanding and retaining of the message; listening actively to others.
• Working cooperatively with others to help a team or work group achieve its goals.
• Assimilating and applying new job-related information in a timely manner.
• Accomplishing tasks by considering all areas involved, no matter how detailed; showing concern for all aspects of the job; accurately checking processes and tasks; being watchful over a period of time.

What happens next?
