About the Role:
The Maintenance Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of healthcare facilities by supporting the maintenance team in routine and emergency repair tasks. This position involves performing a variety of maintenance duties including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building upkeep to maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The Maintenance Assistant will work closely with other facility management personnel to identify and resolve maintenance issues promptly, minimizing downtime and disruption to healthcare services. This role requires a proactive approach to facility care, including regular inspections and preventive maintenance to uphold compliance with health and safety regulations. Ultimately, the Maintenance Assistant contributes to the overall quality of care by maintaining the physical infrastructure that supports healthcare delivery.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in maintenance within a healthcare or similar facility.
- Certification or training in facility maintenance, HVAC, electrical, or plumbing.
- Familiarity with healthcare facility regulations and standards.
- Basic computer skills for logging maintenance activities and work orders.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in physically demanding environments.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in performing routine maintenance and repairs on plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other building systems.
- Conduct regular inspections of facility equipment and infrastructure to identify potential issues and report them to the maintenance supervisor.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to ensure minimal disruption to healthcare operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and inventory of supplies.
- Support the implementation of preventive maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of facility equipment and systems.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during all maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance work around patient care schedules and facility operations.
