Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations and/or Operations Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker individually or in a team performs routine and comprehensive general maintenance and cleaning of the facility and equipment in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agencies regulations, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Program/Facilities

1. Ensures the facility is clean of debris and garbage.

1. Disposes and recycles garbage in accordance with Urban Pathways and New York City regulations, policies and procedures.

1. Sorts and eliminates co-mingling of recyclable products and hazardous materials. 

1. Performs building cleaning operations as scheduled.

1. Cleans building area.

1. Sanitizes building area.

1. Strips and waxes floor areas. 

1. Performs window and glass washing.

1. Performs high dusting and vacuuming. 

1. Performs basic groundskeeping.

1. Performs snow removal and other building emergency maintenance tasks. Maintains safe and non-slippery walkways including but not limited to spreading of salt, deicer and placement of walk-off mats at building entrances, in inclement weather.

1. Performs maintenance duties including but not limited to:

1. Paints assigned areas. Provides protection from paint drippings in adjoining areas and furniture. 

1. Observes safety protocols and procedures in all work operations. 

1. Performs preventative and remedial repairs and maintenance on facility and equipment including minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs.

1. Monitors the facility at all times to identify issues needing attention such as emergency repairs and immediately reports issues to supervisor.

1. Ensures that all equipment and appliances are in good working order.

1. Provides recommendations for repair, upgrade or replacement when needed.

1. Provides limited front desk coverage as designated by supervisor.  

1. Answers phones.

1. Screens visitors.

1. Monitors building CCTV and fire alarm /security panel.

1. Communicates with local fire and police departments as needed.

1. Performs client relocations as needed.

1. Performs safety inspections as mandated by Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.

1. Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)in accordance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.

Administrative

1. Maintains ongoing communication with preceding and following shifts, including clinical staff in compliance with Urban Pathways policies and procedures.

1. Assists in maintaining inventories of all maintenance and janitorial supplies as needed.

1. Completes work orders and other tasks as assigned.  

1. Completes paperwork to close out all assigned work orders.

1. Completes and submits requisitions for supplies.

1. Completes and signs off daily checklist on completed tasks.

1. Assist sin carrying out the preventative maintenance plan for the facility.

1. Completes and submits appropriate reports.

1. Documents all incidents and unusual occurrences in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.

1. Documents client activities and incident reporting in client database system(s).

Community Relations

1. Represents Urban Pathways and responds to inquiries as needed.

Communication

1. Communicates verbally and in writing in a professional manner at all times.

1. Attends staff meetings, trainings, and supervisory sessions, as required.

1. Responds to all communications including telephone, email and other oral and written inquiries in a timely manner.

Performs all other duties as assigned and as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience in building maintenance and janitorial duties or equivalent of experience.
• Experience with homeless, individuals with mental health conditions and substance abuse population preferred.

Skills

• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Outlook, etc.) a plus.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Ability to use various power and hand tools efficiently and in a safe manner.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
• Knowledge of various building maintenance and repair procedures and safety techniques.
• Foreign languages a plus.

Other

• Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, evenings and to remain on post until relieved.

Licenses

• OSHA license a plus.
• CPR, First Aid required within 3 months of hire.
• AED preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, lift (up to50lbs.), carry, climb stairs and ladders frequently, type, write, read, speak, see, and hear.
